the car ride along with the plane ride flew by as i became very cloudy with my surroundings. i had always understood that moving would be a struggle but i felt that everyone around me did not give a flying fuck about me except myself.

we pull into the driveway of the house where i would spend the remaining 2 years of my high school career in. i notice right away that the driveway next to ours had a hockey net which i knew instantaneously that i would need to befriend these neighbors so i would be allowed to use the net. i also notice how our house was fairly large which i enjoyed yet it still didn't feel as much of a home as our previous house had.

it was getting late and i decided that instead of unpacking like i should, i would procrastinate and go on a jog so i could investigate my surroundings before the first day of school tomorrow.

i decide to jog in just a sports bra and athletic shorts because it is noticeably hotter here than in our previous house. i grab my earbuds and my phone as i begin my way down the street.

at about 3 miles in my run i realized just how much i was lost. a string of uninvited swears quickly left my mouth. the sunset was beautiful but it also meant that it would soon be dark which brought even more worry to me.
"are you lost?"
an unfamiliar voice from behind me caused me to turn around. to my surprise i find a shirtless boy who looked around my age. he happened to be shirtless and if i'm being honest - he was gorgeous. the "golden hour" of the sun was hitting the sweat that was forming on his perfect skin. it was obvious that he had been running as well.
"is it that obvious?"
he laughed "ya it kinda is. where are you trying to go?"
"i just moved on oak street"
his whole face seemed to light up "oh you're the new family on the street! turns out we are neighbors!"

"oh really?" i was completely taken by surprise, if i had known i was meeting the cute neighbors i would have worn something that isn't a plain sports bra.
"ya it's not that far from here, let's go"
we slowly pick up the jog again but it was nice to have someone to run with.
"so what have you seen since you got here"
"i haven't seen much, i just got off the plane a few hours ago"
"oh really, newer than i thought"
"ya and i'm really nervous for school tomorrow"
"don't be nervous, school sucks ass but you'll be fine. i'll give you a tour if you want!"
"that actually sounds perfect, i just know i'll be as lost as the freshmen"
we both laugh but continue to run. the duration of the run was fun, we had talked about the start of school and why my family had moved. i learned that he was in my grade which helped now that i knew someone so i wouldn't be completely lonely on the first day of school. i took him up on his offer to give me a tour of the school.
"this must be your house" he said as we turned the corner. instantly my surroundings looked familiar once again.
"it is, thanks again for saving me."
"anytime. i live just right there." he points to the house directly next to mine. he wasn't joking when he said we were neighbors, i had just assumed that he would be further down the street. the hockey net in his driveway cane to my mind once again.
"hey do you play hockey?" i asked
"yeah, hockey is kinda a big thing around here. there is two rival teams in the town and i'm the captain of one."
"oh really that's great, i was the captain of my old team before i moved here"
"that stinks"
i instantly became confused on why he thought that the fact that i had been the captain would stink. "what do you mean?"
"i mean it sucks that you would need to quit, there are no girls hockey teams here."

shit.

i should have done more research or something, i would have never let my dad move if i had realized this. my whole world is changing and i had thought that hockey would be the one constant in my life.

the only thought that i was thinking somehow made itself into words as i said "is there anyway that i could tryout for the boys team?"
he looked caught off guard by my miniature outburst "i don't think there is a rule against a girl playing on a boys team but we are definitely competitive here which makes it near impossible for anyone to get on the team"
i didn't care at this point - that meant there was a chance that i could get on the team and that was all that i needed.
"hey well thanks for helping me back!"
"no problem! hey if you need a ride tomorrow, i can drive you so it'll be easier to start your tour."
"that would actually be great, text me!"
he pulled out his phone and handed it to me so i could write my number in the contacts. i soon handed the phone back to him.
"well i'll seeya tomorrow"
"ya, seeya"
with that, we both headed back to our houses.

when i was laying in bed that night i received a text from an unknown number which must have been him because it said "i will pick you up at 6:30 tomorrow be ready :)"
well shoot
i just realized that I had never caught his name or even if I did I must have forgotten it.
i guess i'll just have to figure it out tomorrow.
