Chapter 8
[ H A R V E Y ]
Loren and I lean closer and closer until a shout from Zach which startles us to back off. 'RYE!! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING?'
Loren puts her fingers against the bridge of her nose, 'I swear that idiot is always up to something. I better check.'
She turns around as I quickly grab her wrist, 'uh, I'll check for you since he would do something you don't want to know' I plaster a fake smile, letting go of my hand on her wrist slowly.
She smiles back, 'But remember I lived with this idiot for many years, so I've seen some weird things he did in the past.' she states as she follows me out of the room. We walk past a group of jocks smoking, the aroma of strong weed diffusing across the hallway as we lurch down the stairs, walking past people bicker with one another.
I try to push people out of our way so that Loren doesn't get shoved by accident. I turn my head around to see Loren avoiding herself from toppling over so I reach out my hand, gesturing her to hold my hand. She holds my hand firmly in a swift motion. Her cold soft palm sends shivers along my arm as if we have an attachment. I find Zach talking to his mates, wafting his hands in the air, looking very aggravated.
'Dude where's Rye?' I ask urgently as I quickly relinquish Loren's hand.
'I'll tell you where he is,' he points over where Rye is half-naked, lying on the floor next to Zach's expensive sofa, 'He's a fucking idiot for pissing on my MOST expensive sofa and I tried to tell him to take a piss in the washroom, but he wouldn't listen.' Zach says shaking his head, his uncontrollable rhythm of breathing increases his anger.
I utter with annoyance, 'well to be fair he always does this.'
'Can we leave him there and just pick him up tomorrow morning?' Loren suggests, crosses her arms around her.
'Yeah. The lovely Mr Zach Clayton can drop him home.' I turn, smiling at him as he scowls indignantly. 'There's no fucking way that I'm dropping this son of a bitch home!' he rants as he walks off leaving us behind.
I turn to Loren as she smiles awkwardly, and I realise that since Rye can't hear us then I can let her know about my feelings for her. I feel very diffident towards girls I tend to have a crush on, but it takes time for me to process what to say.
'Loren, remember you asked me who's this mystery girl I like,' I stutter as she nods, 'well I wanted you to know that you're the girl I was talking about.'
She stares at my green eyes, not saying a single word. 'Loren? You there?' I say in a hushed tone, scratching the back of my neck neurotically.

'You're the girl I was talking about.'
'You're the girl I was talking about.'
'You're the girl I was talking about.'
I keep hearing these words in my head repeating and repeating in different pitches. What I did not realise is that I didn't respond to him for a good 5 minutes, so I try to gather an excuse to leave and think this through. Then Brooke and Lucas pop up, 'I-I have to see Brooke... ' I speak with confusion.
Harvey looks at my ocean blue eyes, looking rather dubious. 'Uh cool,' he rotates his head to see a kitchen, 'I'm in the kitchen if you need me.'
I nod as I walk off, slipping past countless sweaty bodies grinding against each other.
It feels endless.
As I reach to the other side, I notice Brooke sitting on the table with Blake and Thomas, watching a few jocks play beer pong.
