A little girl ran on her wobbly legs, still getting used to walking. She had fair skin and bleach blonde hair done up in pigtails. She searched for her moms in the house, her crystal blue eyes getting big when she saw them. "Mommy!" she called as she neared her mothers who were standing in the office room of the house, arguing in hushed voices.
"Yes honey. What do you need? Mommy and me are talking right now." One of her parents responded and she pulled her dirty blonde hair up in a messy ponytail. The little girl's excitement was replaced with sadness and she looked up at her moms.
"Why are you guys fighting again?" she asked in a lower tone. She hated her moms fighting and they always denied it as if she wasn't smart enough to notice it.
"Now Nicole we've told you before. We are NOT fighting just because we raise our voices." Her other mom said as her own frustration hightened at the situation.
The little girl knew when to step back, they hardly ever used her real name unless they were frustrated with her. She turned away before her parents could see her eyes tear up and she walked away as calmly as she could to her room at the top of the grand wooden suitcase.
Two weeks later...
"Nikki come in here honey" One of the girl's mothers called. Nikki slid down the staircase and plopped down on the couch next to her mom. It had been a lazy day and she was in her favorite Tinker Bell gown.
Her other mom took a deep breath and looked at her daughter. "Me and mommy have decided that I'm going to get my own apartment. You will see me every other week with your brother, Logan" she said, fighting back her own tears.
Nikki didn't know why her mom was upset, if she wanted her own house she should be happy. The little girl had no idea that this was going to be forever, or what it really meant: divorce.
