My attention was solely on the classroom clock. Only a couple more minutes until the bell rings and then summer vacation officially starts.

"Bzzzzzzzzzzz!" The final bell of the school year rings at last.

"Can you believe it Hope? We are going into the summer before senior year. We are technically seniors now." My best friend Faith practically yelled to me as we exited the classroom next to each other.

"Lower your voice down Faith, at this rate Russia can hear what you are saying. But yea, this summer is going to be something else alright." I said.

I started school early and don't have my driver's license yet, while Faith has to share the car with her older sister, so we were both stuck walking to the school buses to leave. We had both emptied out our lockers the day before, so we were ready to high tail it out of here.

"Text me later," I said to Faith as we hugged each other and went on our different buses.

Thirty minutes later, the bus dropped me off in front of my house. I get my key from my school bag and I open the door, to find my mom sitting on the couch watching TV.

"Hi mom, I'm home," I say to her.

Things have been rocky between us ever since she decided to leave her boyfriend of eight years for a new guy. Her decision affected my whole family, as no one understands why she did it.

"Hey sweetie, set the table for me. Dinner would be ready in a couple of minutes. I need to talk to you about something important."

"Okay," I said. I dropped my school bag in my room, changed my clothes and went to set the table.

My mom got up and trailed behind me, revealing that she made Shrimp Alfredo with garlic bread for dinner, my favorite. She poured the pasta into two bowls, and we both sat down. We said our grace and began to dig in.

"Where is Charles?" I asked my mom. Charles is my mom's new boyfriend and it was surprising to not see him eat dinner with us, he never misses dinner.

"He should be back soon dear, he just went out to run some errands"

I nodded my head in agreement as I continued to eat my pasta.

"So I know that these past months have really been hard for you, so Charles and I have decided that it would be good for you to finish your senior year off somewhere new and move this summer." She said looking at my face fro some kind of reaction.

"Move? Can we move to the house a couple of blocks down, closer to Faith's neighborhood so she can drive me to school?"

"I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say Hope. You are going to move in with your Aunt Morgan and Uncle Benjamin next week, while Charles and I stay here and take care of the house"

After those words came out of her mouth, I looked straight ahead into my mother's eyes to see if she was serious. And she was.

Then it dawned on me. It was not her idea to send me away, it was Charles. And he could not even be a big enough man to deliver the news in person, so he had my mother deliver the news so I can't do anything.

My mom continue to stare at me, as if she was waiting for me to explode or last out. Yet, I did not have it within me. If he truly was the person behind it, then there was no way for me to talk myself out of it.

I suddenly lost my appetite, stood up from the kitchen table and silently went to my room.
