THE NEW BEGINNING
have you ever felt fear?
not like phobias or your little brother yelling "boo" at you on halloween night.
real fear.
the crippling kind — where your body is petrified, and cold sweat drips from your forehead. goosebumps explode across your skin and the hairs on the crook of your neck stand in attention.
the type of fear where you feel like your doom is near and there's no hope.
the type of fear where you start reminiscing your memories and wishing you had done things differently if you had known what was going to happen this very moment.
you flinched as you heard another ear piercing scream outside your dead silent classroom, your heart pounding at an alarming rate. you felt your eyes watering and your face beginning to burn as you tried to be quiet. your throat ached as it begged to be released from the tight swallow you had kept for about ten minutes. you couldn't.
you couldn't let it hear you.
usually, when lockdowns happen ─ you always assume that it's a drill, therefore never having fear being drilled into your system.
but, this time it was different.
your principal, mr. mackey, was panting ─ his voice laced with intense inquietude. you could tell whatever was making him so distressed was increasing his perturbation by the second.
"please, stop what your doing!" mr. mackey screamed into the intercom. "there is force outside the school that is threatening our safety, therefore we are going on lockdown!"
he paused for a second, and you imagined he looked out his office windows to check on the supposed threat.
"and for the love of god ─ what ever you do, do not leave the school."
once everyone heard the click of the intercom ─ lights went out, doors were locked, windows were shut, and students hid.
and that's what brings you here, under a desk, a terrified mess.
you and your classmates were alone with silence for a couple more minutes, but not until a loud banging was sounded around the entire class.
you jumped, your head automatically snapping to the direction of the loud commotion. through the mini window of the door, you saw a sheriff ( by the looks of her badge ) with wide eyes and yelling inaudible things.
