Nathaniel's POV
My heart beats rapidly as I recheck the white Christmas lights that hang loosely in the tree by the lake. The picnic basket is packed and the small blanket neatly spread under the white Christmas light decorated tree. Everything has to be perfect before she gets here.
I walk to the back of the tree where I had hidden a car battery to connect the wires to turn on the Christmas lights. The lights brighten the night sky, giving off just enough light to see without making it harsh.
The lights beautifully reflected off the steady flowing water from the lake. The calmness of the night is then disturbed when the sound of bicycle tires breaking twigs and scraping soil gently fill the atmosphere. I turn around to see the goddess herself. She is wearing a pair of black skinny jeans, a large grey hoddie with her hair up in a ponytail.
"Well look what we have here. When you sent me a message for us to meet by the lake this late, I never expected this. What's the occasion?" She asks as she walks up to sit down on the blanket. I take a deep breath and finally sit down next to her.
"Well I just so happened to be trying out some new dessert recipes and I needed someone to try them out with me. " I say as I begin to take out the desserts from the picnic basket, but not before turning on my portable speaker that I also packed in the basket. I choose the special song from my play list, making sure she doesn't see me. The music then sweeps sweetly into the air.
"Greyson Chance, really?" She asks with a giggle as she smiles at me. I lift up a container filled with mini dark chocolate cupcakes with lime icing and dark green, yellow and red fondant leaves for that added effect and placed them out in front of her. Next I lifted up a rectangular container filled with vanilla sponge cake iced with whipped cream and berries and did the same.
"Yes. Sunshine and City lights. It kind of suits us if you ask me." I say as I pick up a jar of mud pudding, which is basically just crushed up sponge cake covered in dark custard, and a spoon. I take out a very generous helping of the pudding with the spoon and lift it up to her lips.
"Oh really, How so?" She asks as she takes a bite of the creamy pudding then hums with appreciation, loving it's taste. I smile brightly at the sound as I take out the two bottles of cucumber water for us to drink.
"Well think about it. You're a girl who sees more to life in the sunshine and I'm well.... " I drag on, completely forgetting my charisma as I watch her grab a slice of the sponge cake. She took what people would consider the most unladylike bite out of the cake, which caused some cream to remain on her nose, but that was my moment witness her in her most beautiful state. She is herself, and she chooses to be this way around me.
"You're a boy who's been blinded by the city lights." she says as she grabs one of the napkins to wipe off the cream. She looks up into the light filled tree and smiles, closing her eyes as the light gently illuminates her gorgeous skin. It's moments like this where I wish that I could stop the clock from turning, just to be trapped in this minimal infinity.
"And why couldn't we do this at your house?" She asks as she goes for another bite of the cake.
"That's because our parents would have been able to ruin the moment. I planned long and hrad for this moment with you. Plus, I wanted you all to myself." I say as I gently grab the hand that is lifting up the dessert to her mouth, pushing it down to put the treat back into the container and securely but her side. My hand never left hers, in fact fingers intertwining as we both slowly started leaning in, staring longingly into each others eyes.
"Greedy much?" She asks laughingly as the space between us lessens. The rushing water, the gentle music, the restless wilderness, all creating the perfect scene. We draw nearer.
