I look at my phone.
Nothing.
Not one single text message.
I sigh and plop on my bed. Nobody really talks to me because I don't talk.
Yeah. I'm a mute.
Summer's coming to an end and school will be starting up soon.
It's the first time I've been to school after what happened to the love of my life.
I look up at the ceiling and just stare at it for no reason at all.
It's all I can do right now.
My mind is a spinning wheel.
What could I have done to help him? I was scared for my life.Flashback
It was a hot summer day and I was out mowing the lawn out front.
All we had was a lousy push mower that didn't like to start up sometimes.
I was out messing with it, trying to get it to start, and that's when a boy I never seen before came up to me.
"Need some help?" He asked.
I looked at his face. He had blue eyes, black hair, and cute little nose.
I nodded slowly.
He smiles and puts his hand out for me to shake it.
"Hi. I'm Jasper Black." I shook his hand.
He looks at me and I look at him and it was kinda awkward.
"Well, are you gonna tell me your name?"
I instantly nod and grab a piece of my little brother's chalk and wrote my name on the sidewalk for Jasper.
He smiles.
"Denise huh? That's a nice name."
I then realized that he was really nice and probably wanted to be friends with me.
He smiles and looks at the lawnmower.
"Is it old?" He asked me.
I nod.
"You're not very chatty huh? I like that." He said.
I nearly blush. Nobody has ever said anything like that to me before.
He starts working on the lawnmower. "I just moved in next door. New foster family. I hope they like me."
Next door? He lives with Ellis Preston and her kids?
I feel kinda bad for him because Ellis was a pretty rough person. She was only into foster care for the money.
She'd only spend the money on herself and her biological children instead of the foster ones.
I didn't realize I was so deep in thought until Jasper said something.
"Daydreamer I see. That's adorable." He chuckles a bit.
I blush a little bit in embarrassment and also the fact that he was flirting with me.
He smiles and keeps working on the mower. He seemed to not have a problem with me being mute. He seemed to actually like it.
He looked up and was about to say something until Ellis stuck her head out the door and called his name with that bittersweet voice of hers that always made me cringe a bit.
He sighs and looks at me.
"I guess I'll see you soon?"
I nod instantly and he smiles.
"Good. See you later Denise."
Before he walked away he slipped me a piece of paper.
I walked into my house and open it.
It had his number.
I smiled and went upstairs to my room and grabbed my phone.
I had met Jasper Black. And I liked him.
A lot.
