There are whispers among underground. Whispers about the freshest lifestyle up above. A place that you can only dream about. I really want to believe that's true but I was always told that it was a lie. I was told that the inklings up above were selfish and that we will get revenge on them one day. My family expects a lot from me. My mom keeps saying that I am the smartest in the family but I don't want to be. There is so much pressure. I just want to live my live how I want to but My whole family wants me to join the Octarian army. To make my family proud I decided that I have to. It can't be that bad right? Anyways that leads us to today. I am about to leave for the army.
"Oh Meri, I am going to miss you." my mom said
"Oh come on mom you wanted me to join the Octarian army."
"I know but I am still going to miss you."
"I know mom."
"Also the army is very dangerous."
"I know it is but I won't even be in the front lines. I am just a combat engineer. You have nothing to worry about."
"I know Meri but didn't you hear what happened?"
"No, what happened?"
"the last combat engineer went missing."
"Oh, I-I'm sure everything will be fine."
"I am just worried."
"..."
"Just don't be afraid to call me, Meri."
"O-Ok mom."
"I won't distract you any further go ahead and keep packing."
"Ok, I love you, mom"
"I love you too Meri"
I continued packing and thought of what could of happened to the last combat engineer. I'm sure they'll be able to tell me more when I get there. I shouldn't be so worried. I am sure they have everything under control but I couldn't help but think of what could of happened. There is always guards all over an army base. So they couldn't have been kidnapped. Maybe they ran away. I don't blame them, I would if I could. It gets boring seeing the saw place over and over again. That is why I am kind of excited to see the army base. Also, it will be the first time I lived by myself. Well I might have a roommate but it will still be my first time without my family. I can't wait.
"Well I think that's everything. I probably don't want to bring too much anyways" I said to myself
I walked out of my room and then decided to go to the bathroom before talking to my family. I use the bathroom then wash my hands in the ink sink (because they die soon as they touch water). I stood there for a couple of minutes.
"I can't believe I am doing this" I said to myself
I have prepared for this my whole life and I have finally done it. My family will be proud of me. All I have ever wanted is for my family to be proud of me. I never Really wanted to be a part of the Octarian army. I did all of this to make my family proud. I can't turn back now. I looked in the mirror. Am I really cut out for the army. I am a different type of octoling. I am what they call a Dumbo octoling. I am a little bit shorter than most octolings and my ears are a little bit different. My ears are still round but ummm....It's hard to explain what they look like. That is all that is different about me. My hair is normal for octolings and My purple eyes are also normal for an octoling. Enough of just standing here. I finally walk out of the bathroom and then went into the kitchen. Where
my whole family was waiting to say goodbye.
"Well isn't it my little army soldier" my dad said sounding proud.
"Come on dad, don't call me that."
"We are all very proud of you sweetie." said my grandma.
" I can't believe my little girl is so talented." my mom said looking as if she had tears in her eyes.
"Mom, I am not a little kid anymore."
"You are still my little girl no matter how old you are."
"Yeah yeah whatever mom."
"Aku come say goodbye to your sister." my mom said to my little brother.
"Bye fart face." my brother said to me.
"See you never trash slug" I said back
"Will you two ever get along." my mom said to us.
"Nope" me and him both say at the same time.
"Well I have to get going" I said
"Before you go I just wanted to say that your grandpa would be so proud of you" my grandma said.
"I know he would"
My grandma gave me a sweet smile than looked down.
"Well I have to go now" I said returning the smile.
"Bye Meri, don't forget I will always believe in you" my dad said
"Bye sweetie" said my grandma
"Bye baby" said my mom
"I will miss you, Meri" said Aku
After all the hugs and kisses I finally got out the door and started heading to the train station.
