Its been about 9 months and I get a phone call, I pick it up and the next words I hear are the most unexpected words I thought I would ever hear. "Hello is this Brandon West?" Yes this is he I say. "You may want to sit down." I sit. "Brandon do you remember Lily Hanna?" Of course who could forget her is what I wanted to say buy I just said yes. " she has just passed away in the New York City hospital." I didn't even know she was in New York I tell him. "Could you please come here Lily has left a few things for you." Ok I will be there in a bit I say very sad and confused. We both hang up and I just sit there in shock, how is she dead, is that why she left me, what did she leave for me? But what I'm thinking about the most is that I didn't get to say goodbye. I drive down to the hospital and when I get there Lily's doctor is waiting for me. "Hello Brandon I have some news for you that you may want to sit down for." Ok I say and we go to his office. We both sit down and he tells me the reason why I'm here. "Brandon Lily had cancer which is why she died and why she did not contact you." "Ok I still do not see why I'm here, what did she leave for me?" "Brandon she left you a beautiful daughter." The words hit me like knives. "A daughter? She was pregnant?!" "Yes Brandon and giving birth to your daughter was the last thing she wanted to do before she passed." "Where is she?" I ask him. "The nursery." Can you take me there? "Of course I can Brandon." He takes me and all I can think about is I have a child, I have always wanted to be a dad but not this soon. But the second I saw her all of those thoughts went away. "She is beautiful" I say. Dr.Gray just smiles at me. "When do I get to take her home?" I ask. "We have to get everything sorted out but when that is done she is ready to go." "Oh and Lily left you baby supplies and money for her." Really? I ask. "Yes and she also wanted you to name her." He says right as Lily's parents walk in. "Brandon your here" Lily's mom and dad both say as they hug me. I look at them then at my daughter, "I am never going to abandon you sweet girl" I say to my daughter. They both smile. I look at her for a while trying to figure out what I want to name her when suddenly the name comes to me. Hanna May West. I tell the nurse and she smiles and tells me its a beautiful name. After hours and hours of paper work and talking. I Finally have custody of my daughter and get to take her home. I the whole drive home all I coukd think about was what Lily had to have gone through. She is so strong and I will always make sure to tell out daughter what a amazing woman her mother was. Its about 3:30 in the morning when I get home. I had called my parents at the hospital and they said they will come down as soon as they can. I don't know what I'm gonna do about school but I know one thing for sure, I love my little girl. I love her big blue eyes and her dark brown almost black hair. She got Lily's eyes and my hair. She has a lot of Lily in her, her nose, eyes, chin, and lips. Hanna wakes up and just stares at me. I wonder what are you thinking about baby girl I say to her and she grunts. Are you pooping on me? I say and laugh. I change her diaper and as I'm undressing her I see her birthmark. It is a big light brown mark on her tummy. I rub it and smile, you have the same birthmark as your mommy my little love.
