At the hospital,  Pam, Ashlyn, and Shannon sat in the waiting room.  Pam's parents proceeded towards them.  Their faces hung low.

Pam shot up from her seat and began to bombard her parents with questions. "What did the doctors say? How is 'Lyss?  When can we see her?"  Her eyes began to water.

Pam's father held her and her mother spoke, "The doctors say Alyssa is in critical condition.  They say they are trying everything, but she just lost too much blood.  She cut two major arteries."

Pam began to sob.  The three walked away to another side of the waiting room leaving Ashlyn and Shannon alone.

"Do you think she will make it?"  Shannon said.

Ashlyn, looking straight ahead, said, "She will make.  She has to.  Alyssa is strong.  She will pull through.  She just has to..."  She broke down and started to cry.

About an hour or so later, a nurse came out from two double doors.  "Is there someone from the Miller family here?

The girls and parents all stood up.  Their father walked up to the nurse, wife in arm.  "Yes?  I'm Alyssa's father."

The nurse looked around and the parents and nurse began walking back towards the double doors.  When they were about to walk through, Alyssa and Pam's mother stopped.  Her knees hit the floor.  The three girls knew what was going on.

Pam bolted through the doors the nurse was leading her parents through, "What room is she in?  I have to see her! "  The nurse pointed down the hall.  There was sadness in her eyes.

Pam sprinted down the hall as fast as she could with Shannon and Ashlyn calling her name behind her.

When she got to the room she saw her sister lying on a small bed with pure white sheets.  There were branches of sunlight shining through the cracked curtains.

Pam stood in the door way out of breath.  She looked at her sister and tears welled up in her eyes.  She hesitated as she proceeded toward the bed.

When she got to the edge, she observed her sister's body.  Alyssa had her hands crossed over her stomach with stitches you could see went half way around her wrists.  She was wearing a blue hospital gown.  She looked peaceful.

Pam knelt on the floor next to her deceased sister.

When Shannon and Ashlyn reached the room Pam was in, they stood in the door way.  They just looked down at her.

"She never really wanted to go to college."  Pam sniffed, holding her sister's cold hands and looking at her pale face, "She wanted to be a writer.  She told me that you know.  I told her she was more than that and I shot down her dream.  We had an argument that night...That was the last time I spoke to her."

The next day the Miller parents were busy with funeral arrangements for their daughter.  Pam went over her best friend Holly's house.

Pam and Holly met in high school and hit it off.  They have been Best Friends ever since.

Holly had poker straight brown hair and big brown eyes.  She was quiet and almost like another sister to Pam.

Pam and Holly went for a walk.  Pam thought  it was good to go on walks to clear your head.  Holly just liked to walk.

As they strolled down the street, they arrived at a busy intersection.

"We nee to be care here.  The people who drive on these streets are crazy."  Said Holly.

Pam just rolled her eyes, "O. K. mom."

The girls laughed.  Pam pulled out her phone and continued to text Ashlyn about her day and usual girl stuff like they do every day.

Pam then looked up from her phone and noticed no traffic, so she proceeded to walk.

"Pam look out!"

Holly pushed Pam to the ground and jumped into the street.

A car flew by and the driver never looked back.
