I sit and wait for a couple minutes, and then a girl comes in. She doesn't look any older than me, maybe a year or two. She sits down at the table across from me and brushes her long red hair out her face. "Hi, I'm Harmony." she says.
"I'm Carlie," I say, "but I guess you already know that."
"Yes." Harmony smiles. She flips through the papers in front of her until she finds the one that she's looking for. She slides it out in front of me. "Study this. And tell me when you think you've memorized the picture."
I look down. The picture is of a beach scene. I stare at it for a while, taking in every detail. "Okay." I say.
Harmony takes the picture back and looks at another sheet. "Was there mountains or a forest in the background?"
"That's easy. Mountains." I say.
Harmony nods. "Correct. Which side of the picture is the sun on?"
Ooh, tough question. I think for a little while, trying to remember. "Um, I don't think the sun was in the picture."
"Correct." Harmony smils. "Okay, one more question. Which side is the beach on?"
"Left?" I guess. I figure I have a 50/50 chance.
"Yes." Harmony nods. She shuffles through her sheets of paper. She slides another picture in front of me, this one of the Northern Lights. I stare at it until I'm pretty sure I've memorized it.
"Okay." I say.
Harmony slides the picture away from me. "What colors are in the sky?" she reads.
"Purple, green, and a little pink." I say. At least, I think that's what colors there was.
"Correct. What side was the sun setting to?" Harmony questions.
"Right." Again, I have a 50/50 chance.
"Correct. And the last question. Was there mountains?" Harmony asks.
"No, there was trees." I say.
Harmony grins. "You got all of your questions right!" I smile as she writes down some stuff. "I'll be right back with some papers for you to fill out."
I nod. When Harmony comes back in the room, she's carry a whole bunch of papers like she promised. She hands them to me along with a pen, and I get to work.
An hour and a half later, I finished filling out all of the paperwork. Who knew that joining the FBI could be so intrusive? They even asked what color my bedroom walls are. That's kind of weird. But I guess that there isn't many secrets in the FBI. I sign my name for the last time, and hand the papers back to Harmony. She takes them with a smile, and leaves the room again. When she comes back, she's carrying a badge and ID card. She hands them to me with another smile. This girl sure does smile a lot.
"Congrats! You're officially an agent to the FBI." Harmony says, hugging me.
"Thanks!" I didn't realize that I would be this excited.
"Tomorrow, I need you to come in the morning to get your desk and stuff organized. You'll be with my team." Harmony tells me.
"I have school tomorrow..." I say.
"Don't worry. Carter took care of everything. You don't have to go to school anymore. You'll have a tudor here, so that you can take lessons in between assignments. That's how I was." Harmony explains. I grin. This deal keeps getting better and better!
When I get home, I show my mom my badge. I was told not to tell anyone about my new job, not even Bella. She will be told, along with everyone else, that I've gone to a private school. Tomorrow, while I'm at work, my mom will go get all of my stuff from my locker and classes.
