TICK

TOCK

TICK

TOCK

The sound of the clock echoes through the library.

Silence.

Isn't it normal for a library to be silent?

Of course it is.

The place where people go to read, do research and maybe even just chill because of the cold air from the air conditioning. There are times when the library is full, sometimes empty. Though that doesn't bother the person behind the desk. He doesn't really notice about the amount of people in the room. He rather engrosses himself with a book and wait until his shift ends, or even when his class is about to start.

Another typical quiet day. So peaceful.

His mind on the right track and focuses on the book he's currently reading. That is until a voice echoes through the quiet room. Of course there are people whispering to each other and that doesn't bother him as long as their volume was low. However, this particular person was not so quiet.

One day, as Mark was rearranging the books on the shelf, he heard a laugh behind the shelf. He looks in between the books to see who was making such a commotion. He sees a boy with dusty grey hair sitting on the floor, smiling at his phone. His thumb swiping up and up. He stops and then proceeds to laugh again. Mark clears his throat, getting the boy's attention. He tilts his head upwards and sees only Mark's nose and hair. He raises his left eyebrow.

"Whut?" He says with a very blunt tone. Now Mark is the one with an eyebrow raise.

Is this kid serious?

"Can you lower your volume a bit?" Mark asks in the politest way possible despite being annoyed by this person on the other side of the shelf. The kid sounded a long Hmmmmm before looking back to Mark with a grin.

"Nope"

He goes back to his phone, ignoring Mark's presence. His eyes widen at such attitude from the obviously younger person. He rolls his eyes and decides to just continue with rearranging the shelf. He covers the space between the book to close his view from the silver hair boy. Thinking that the dude won't be loud anymore, he heard another laugh.

He takes a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves down. He proceeds to walk to a different section, hoping to get away from the noises and find peace.

☀️

It has been a week now where the boy keeps disrupting the quiet peace in the library. Either laughing too loud, talking too loud, accidentally pushing books on the shelf over and so on. Mark was pretty impressed with himself, because as a short tempered person, he manages to held back his anger to just sucker punch this boy to oblivion.

However, all that self-control was gone to waste when he finally decides to snap. The kid sneaked up on his friends who were talking and scared them, which cause the two person to shout in shock. That did it for him. He walks up to the boy, who was searching for books on the shelf.

"Hey. You mind stopping?" The silver hair boy was startle before he turns around. He raises his eyebrow at the blond haired one, still not understanding what he did wrong.

"Stop what?" He tilts his head. Mark huffed out a laugh, not believing the younger's answer.

"You're being too loud again. Don't you know what a library is? Can you low down that volume of yours??" He asks again. The boy's body now fully facing Mark. He crosses his hand across his chest.

"I still don't see the issue here. I wasn't being loud." He says, feeling irritated. Mark was surprise as to why this kid is pissed off when Mark should be the one who's freaking annoyed.

"I was being nice to you before, but you didn't listen still. I told you for the millionth time already." Mark furrow his eyebrow in anger. The kid notices how mad the taller guy seems to be but that didn't bother him at all.

"Well unfortunately, I was born this way. Soooo deal with it." Haechan sticks out his tongue to the angry figure in front of him. Mark sighs heavily as he takes of his glasses, slightly messaging the bridge of his nose. He wanted to argue again but halted when he felt a touch on his shoulder. He turns to his side to see one of the boy's friend who he scared before.

"Johnny hyungg~ Mister librarian here is being mean to meeee." The kid pouts, putting the blame on Mark. He rolls his eyes. So done with his childish attitude.

"Haechan, don't be so mean. You're pretty loud every time we come here. Plus, this is a library. How about lowering your volume?" Johnny advices the boy, who Mark now know is Haechan, with a parent-like tone. Haechan opens his mouth to argue but soon closes it. Realizing the consequences if he fights back the older guy. He mouths the word 'Fiinnnnnee', and walks away from the two.

"Sorry about him, Mark. He's like that."

Mark shakes his head. Not blaming the senior.

"It's fine, Johnny. These new batches of kids are always like this." Mark huffed. He puts his glasses back on his face. "I just hope I won't get involve with that kid ever again."

He says feeling displeasure. Johnny pats his shoulder. "Who knows."

Mark prayed in his mind that he won't get to encounter Haechan ever again. With the annoying things he faces every day, he doesn't want to add another one in the list.
