This is my first story so yay! I really hope whoever reads this enjoys it.

He was just a young boy, filled with nothing but honesty and kindness. His hair was similar to that of his father's, dark, brown and smooth, while his eyes shimmered brightly, just like his mother's. He has fair skin, which was unusual for someone who spent so much of their time out in the sun. Everything about his appearance was gorgeous, envied by all that walked by, his parents would say it was as if he was a handsome prince.

His life was as perfect as it could be. He was born to wealthy parents, however this didn't make them cruel by any means, quite the contrary, his mother had a heart of gold and the looks of a beautiful queen, and his father would treat all that passed him with respect. The couple treated their darling son with great love and ,as he grew, taught him a valuable lesson,                          'Have Courage and Be Kind'.

From the day he was born, he lived in the family house, surrounded by a rugged yet lovely farm. He absolutly adored this farm; the birds would sing as the sun raised in the sky, the animals would awake in time to be fed and the staff would be there to greet him as he ran through the fields, looking for adventure!

His childhood was beyond perfect! In his eyes, nothing could go wrong.

But, unfortunately, no matter how much you believe nothing can wrong, life always manages to surprise you. It seemed as if the gods thought his life was going a little too well, as when he was as young as 10 years old, his mother fell fatally ill. Many doctors and nurses visited her, desperate to cure this illness, but none were successful.

He was just relaxing on the grass, in a small world of his own, when his father called out to him, "Son!" He shouted, his voice hoarse, as if he had only been crying moments before.

He trailed behind his father, like a duckling would, and there sat before him was a sight like no other. His mother was there, slouched in a chair, but she no longer resembled that of his mother; this woman was pale beyond what you would expect of a vampire, her once shimmering and perfectly curled hair was now matted. And her eyes... those once beautiful eyes, filled with bright joy and happiness, were now blank, void of anything but pain.

As they entered the room, she began to bring her slowly withering head up and when she saw who it was standing before her, a weak smile came to her paled lips. Even in her last moments her son, her one and only son, could still bring her joy.

Upon seeing the scene before him, the scene of his mother's weakened figure, he could no longer stay strong, and so he began to break down. Hot, wet tears welled up in his eyes, streaming down his once perfect skin, like rain on a cloudy day.

His mother held up one shaky, skeleton-like hand for him to hold, and he did. Kneeling next to her chair, he was gripping onto her hand as if nothing else in the world mattered, because it didn't. This woman meant the world... no the universe to him.

"Son?.." She said, he voice frail and small.                                                                                                                  "Yes?" He choked out, tears taking over his face.                                                                                                     "You must promise me this one thing..."                                                                                                                      "Anything mother! Anything."                                                                                                                                           "Promise me that you'll always remember to have courage and be kind."

Those were her last words. The last words which she ever spoke and once she had spoken them, it was as if she were a flower, wilting away...
