Krithi got ready in a beautiful frock, she looked like an angel in that dress. Her teachers complimented her look but Krithi was sad thinking about Meera since she didn't reached the venue.
The function was started, Krithi was about to cry. Her teachers consoled her and made her to perform her song. She done that half-heartedly. She prayed that Meera should come before getting her award.
"Omg!!! Its already late and this traffic.. Off!!" She cursed looking her watch. "My baby would be worried" she thought and that made her sad. "Anna when will we reach?" She asked the cab driver. "Traffic is cleared madam. We will reach in another 15 minutes" he replied. She sighed in relief but she felt something strange in her. She also prayed that Vishwa shouldn't see her.
"A happy evening to all dignitaries, guests, and delegates with great joy and immense exultation. I feel privileged to extend my warm welcome to all presented here for the celebration of our 30th Annual day. It has become a regular aspect and part of RV Academy.
Now, I invite Guests to the today's function with a request to come on to position and occupy the distinguished chair" A staff welcomed all the guests with smile.
"We fell honored to have with us the honorable Chief Guest. His Excellency Mr.Krishna Vishwanath - Sir you hardly need any introduction, you have made all of us proud of your distinguished work in numerous capacities. You are one of the most celebrated foreign services dignitaries and our Alumni" she extended her welcome to Krishna and he came on the stage. Krithi looked him with smile since she didn't understood the words her teacher said. She clapped her little palms happily with smile.
Krishna gave a professional speech which was admired by everyone. He ended the speech by saying "Become a student of change. It is the only thing that will remain constant". Everyone applauded for his energetic speech. Management published their yearly achievements and finally they announced that was time to cheer up the achievers. Krithi looked at the door with hope but was disappointed.
Meera reached the school and rushed towards auditorium. She met one of Krithi's teacher, she said Meera need to be on stage while Krithi getting her award. Meera was shocked to hear that. She nodded and left the place but her heart beat so fast. She don't wanna meet anyone related to him.
"Why chief guest didn't attend the function?"
"He had some emergency work, so he was not able to attend the function"
Someone's conversation reached Meera's ears. Her face lighten up, she felt relaxed and thanked god."First award for our little super stars who did their best in their academic" they announced. Few children came on stage along with their parents and collected their award.
"Next award is a special award. Its for the best kid in overall activities. "Best preschooler of the year". This award has a specialty, our chief guest too awarded with this title, now our student getting award from his hand. We wish the kid to grow successful in future like him and let us call Krithi on stage to collect the award" Teacher announced with excitement.
Meera reached the auditorium. Krithi went upon stage but her face reflected sadness. Krishna felt happy to see Krithi on stage and he felt proud of the kid. He thought she is not just beautiful but too intelligent. His thoughts were disturbed seeing her sad face and he realized her mom didn't attend the function.
Several years ago, he too felt the same when he walked on the stage alone. His heart ached to see her sad face. "What kind of mother is she? Is her profession is more important than her daughter?" He scolded her mom mentally.
He smiled looking at her but her face reflected sadness. He again smiled and tried consoling her.
Meera's PoV
"Mrs. Meera you are late!" One of the staff said. "Yeah yeah, I'm sorry. Where is Krithi?" I asked. "She is on stage. You do one think, go to stage by back entrance" she replied with smile. "Yeah sure. Thank you" I thanked her and went near stage. My heart beat was different, I don't know why I'm feeling this way. I reached the stage and only thing I could see was my daughter. She too saw me and ran towards me. "Oh!! My baby girl missed me a lot" I thought and hugged her.
I heard a huge applause from the audience. I looked them with smile and kissed my baby. "Mrs Meera please stand with Krithi for receiving her award" her class teacher asked me. I nodded and raised my head to see the guests with smile.
I was taken aback to see him there and my eyes glued with his which were burning like a fire. His eyes reflected his frustration. My vision was blurred because of freshly formed tears.
His face was stern, even a little melancholy, in repose. Here was the same long-boned face, tapering to a pointed chin, the same widely spaced eyes with the droop of the left eyelid, the same steady but slightly ironic gaze except his breath taking smile. Instead, it filled with frustration, annoyance, irritation, aggravation and agitation.
I forgot about the surrounding, the loud applause brought me back to the reality. "Mommy, come" my girl pulled me with her holding my fingers. I took a small step and stood little close to him. Standing there close to him after several years, brought several thoughts in my mind. I stood there without any words, he handed over the award, Krithi got that with happiness and she hugged me in overwhelming happiness.
My girl was happy and she achieved a very big thing in her life but I couldn't take part in her enjoyment. I couldn't cheer her up. "What a bad mom I'm?" The thought made my eyes watery again. "Mommy!! Why are you crying" my baby asked me sadly with tears. "No dear, I'm happy and crying in happiness" I said kissing her cheeks.
By giving him a last look, I came down with my daughter. My heart filled with fear. Oh! God, what I will do know? Why you're testing me this much. No I will not leave my child. Whatever may happen but I'll not give my child to anyone.
"Krithi, Shall we leave?" I asked my daughter. She looked me with confusion. "I'm not well dear. This sound are giving me head ache" I said. She nodded. I sighed in relief and took her out with me.
We reached home in half an hour. I gave bath to my girl and changed her dress. "Mommy, do you remember that uncle. He gave award to me?" She asked which left me in shock. "Uncle!!?" I asked with shock. "Haan, I saw him today afternoon. He brought me icecream. He told many stories, that stories were sooo good. I loved it mommy, you too tell me the same story hereafter" she said leaving me in complete shock.
Krithi will not get attached to people easily but within a day, she got attached with him and talking about him continuously. God!! Please don't separate my child from me, tears rolled down my eyes.
"Aunty!!!" Krithi's voice brought me back to world. "Krithi, look I bought gifts for you. This is your mommy's gift and this is mine" she gave her the gifts we purchased. She looked at me and guessed something. "Okay sweety, you show this gifts with your friends and play with them" she said. Krithi accepted and ran out with joy.
"Hey, Meera what happened?" She asked with concern. I too want to cry and want someone to share my grief. So I cried my heart out hugging her. She left me to cry by patting my back. After few minutes, I got consoled and looked her. "What da, what happened?" She asked.
"Hmm!! I too want to say this with someone........
