It was around 6 am when I first saw the sun poking through the windows of my bedroom. I rubbed my eyes and sat upright, gazing at the extra large suitcase sat in the middle of the floor. Today was moving day. With the youtube money I'd managed to save over the last few years I had brought a furnished apartment in Los Angeles.
All I needed to take with me was a huge bag of clothes and a few things like my charger and my little fan. Being from england means the heat over there is gonna hit me like holy jesus. Suddenly the door creaked open a little, my mum popped her head around the corner.
"You up?" She said with a half whisper into the room.
"Yes" I half whispered back. She laughed and came in and sat next to me on the bed. A tear began to form in her eye but she pushed it aside and grabbed my hand
"My little girl is about to move to america. America for heaven sakes" she laughed again "I'm going to drive you to the airport instead of getting that company to send a driver. I want to make sure I say goodbye to you properly" I smile
"Mum I'm not dying" a tear falls down my cheek but I laugh
"Are you sure you want this?" She asked, gripping my hand tighter
"Yes. It really is" I nodded
"Then hurry up, you have a plane to your future to catch" she laughs and kisses me on the forehead before leaving me to get ready.Hurriedly, I pulled on a tank top with a hoodie over it and some shorts with leggings on top. I know, I know, but it's cold here and hot there so I'm just gonna take off my leggings and hoodie before we land. I lugged my suitcase down the stairs with a huff and stumbled into the front room to see my mum, my step mum (I have lesbian parents), my sister and my twin nephews sat there waiting for me. As I looked upon my family I realised then that although I longed to go to L.A i would miss them so very much.
My sister was the first to stand up, my nephews following and hugging my legs almost knocking me over. I laughed as my sister hugged me.
"I'm gonna miss you.... idiot" she said attempting not to cry, I playfully pushed her.
"Feeling is mutual mate" I smiled and gave her another hug. Then I crouched down to see my nephews. I could feel the tears coming but I pushed them down. Throughout everything our family went through u wouldnt dare let those boys see my cry. I was determined to be their rock and I wasnt going to stop now. I hugged them
"Try not to grow up too fast yeah? And you can come visit whenever you like okay?" I hugged them tighter and kissed them on the head while they mumbled something along the lines of
"Love you Rosie but you're squashing me"I let go and stood up before turning to my step mum. We hadn't really hugged before but now we both welcomed it.
"Thanks for nagging me to keep trying at stuff" I smiled. She laughed
"I'm proud. You're going to be great out there" she grinned and high fived me. I looked towards my mum and nodded.
"Right then. We best go" she said in a soothing, calm voice. I grabbed the handle of my suitcase and walked towards the door. I looked one more time around my quaint little house and at the wonderful people who made my life worthwhile.
"I love you guys" I said, my voice breaking
"We love you too" said my sister.I packed my suitcase into the back of the car and made sure my Visa, passport and phone was in my backpack. I sat in the passenger side and my mum smiled at me.
"Did you say you're getting a car over there?" She asked while plugging her seatbelt in
"Yeah they're sending one to the pavement.. sorry 'sidewalk'... near my apartment and posting the keys through my door" I smiled as I said this in a mock american accent. My mum rolled her eyes and laughed
"Well make sure you remember they drive on a different side of the road. And facetime me when you get there so you can show me" I nod and turn on the radio. We sing along to the George Ezra albums and befone long we've arrived at Gatwick. My mum helps me with my suitcase up to where we see the sign 'Check In' I stared at the sign and butterflies grew in my stomach
"Mum... I'm going to miss you" I sob into her shoulder.
"I'm going to miss you too! But I'm proud of you and the person you are, but also the person you are yet to become" I smiled at her and she smiled her warm smile back. I gave her another hug and reassured her that I would facetime her when I got there to show her everything.I checked in and as I was walking through I yelled
"THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME THE PERSON I AM AND THE PERSON I WILL BECOME. I LOVE YOU MUM!" Everyone around was looking at me then but as a YouTuber it kind of came with the package.
"I LOVE YOU TOO! GO SHOW L.A THE REAL BRITISH CULTURE IT NEEDS!" She yelled back making all the brits in the room laugh. I carried on through security and customs and finally onto the plane. My stomach was still constantly churning until I sat on the plane. I thought to myself
'My entire childhood had been leading up to this very moment. I'm a 19 year old British girl, yes I'm going to stand out but maybe that's exactly what I need to happen'Finally i fell asleep and dreamed of what L.A would really be like
