"Mom why the hell is the tv on at this hour?" I shouted through the doorway to her room I stepped into her room to see what was on the tv.
"Thirteen years old Zella M Thompson has disappeared from home, we have yet to know if she was kidnapped or has run away." My mouth dropped, she has been my crush since the 1st grade and also my best friend for a little while before we got in a huge fight seeing as I wouldn't be nice to her other best friend when maxwell her other best friend and I got into a fight in the sixth grade over her she ran away for her longest amount of time one week and then when she came back never talked to us again.
I slipped back into my bedroom before my mother looked over and saw me starting to cry. I fell asleep with tears in my eyes.
"Nicolas get your butt out of bed! You have school in three minutes!" My mother screamed up the stairs. I jumped out of bed and pulled on jeans a black shirt and my jean jacket. I sighed ready to be that bad boy as always It's not that I don't like this reputation it's that it means I fight with people it means I'm the leader of what people thing is a gang and half the kids in my "gang" smoke I'm not like that but one day maybe in a few years I don't know who I will be. I raced down the stairs and grabbed an apple I ran out the door and raced onto the bus. I went straight to the seat where Amelia Grace aka Zella's best friend was sitting and sat down next to her.
"Do you know what happened to Zella?" I whispered in her ear. She turned to me with her brown eyes like they she was a doe in a headlight. She quickly shook her head no and looked away but then she looked back at me.
"You know I thought Zella would tell you where she was going, she always thought of you as her best friend even after you drifted apart," she whispered back.
"So you think she ran away she wasn't kidnapped?" I asked Amelia she just nodded her head and then secretly pointed over to Max her other best friend from my time. I just nodded and raced to my seat at the back of the bus before Max saw me.
I pull out my phone and looked onto the local news website the Westford Eagle to see if there was anything about Zella that I didn't hear last night. All it said was that she did run away and that we shouldn't be worried because she always comes back. She runs away about one to two times a year for two to three days besides the few times when it's a week she comes back when she isn't angry anymore but it depends on how bad the fight with her sister or parent's was. I pulled up my text messages to text Amelia and ask her to come with me to the Thompson's house and see how bad the fight was.
School. We got to school and right in front of Zellas locker was a bunch of letters to her and a bunch of other stuff like when the boy in our class died last year but this is different she just ran away she didn't die. She didn't die. . . right? I walked over to her locker and turned the lock 3-0-2-0-9 her baby brothers birthday. . . okay not really baby because he is only three years younger than her so he is, what? Ten now, yeah that sounds right. I opened it up and saw one thing in there a blank envelope. I grabbed it just as the bell rang. I slammed her locker shut and raced to my locker dropping off my bag and grabbing my books. I walked the few steps into my eighth grade homeroom and sat down in my seat that was supposed to be right next to Zella but instead Amelia sat there today. I looked over to her and raised an eyebrow pointing at my phone, and she nodded her head. I turned back to my desk and tried to remember my schedule for the day, which was useless because I might as well use the excuse that I was sad and scared because Zella was gone but Zella wasn't an excuse even if I was sad and scared for her. I slip my hand into one of my books and was about to grab the envelope but then I realized I'd get in trouble so I decided to read it with Amelia later.
I stepped out of 8th grade science class and raced down to the forien language hall to wait for Amelia. I grabbed her arm as soon as she stepped out.
"What the hell! Nico?" she shouted I nodded and pulled her to hills outside to eat lunch and show her the letter without saying a word.
We sat down on the bright green grassy hills in front of the school I grabbed the letter from my bag and started to open it. "What is that Nico?" she whispered.
"It's a letter I found in Zella's locker. I hated that they put all that junk in front of the locker like she was dead because she's not dead she just ran away." she nodded her head, and we opened the letter together.
I started reading it in a whisper to Amelia "Dear Whoever finds this. This is Zella Margo Thompson and you may be thinking about where the hell are you and all that stuff, but it's nothing bad. I'm running away tonight I can't deal with this town anymore I hated being in the middle of two boys who always made me choose between them in elementary school and the start of middle school. I always hate fighting with my parents and my older sister. The only good things right now is my best friend Amelia Grace and this boy I like and he might be one of the two who always made me choose between them but I don't care I like him. . . Even if we don't talk that much. So don't worry about me you could come and find me though I have left clues and I'm writing a letter every day and I'm leaving it in every spot I stay in until I settle.
Sincerely,
Zella Margo Thompson
