Ciana looked into her deep, ocean blue eyes. Something wasn't right. Something so vague yet so noticeable. She furrowed her brows and looked at the time on her computer. "A quarter to eight," she mumbled to herself, looking back at her reflection. "What is a girl to do?" She sighed, collapsing on her bed, and carefully studied the intricate floral patterns lining the walls.
"Ciana, breakfast is ready!" her mother's voice stormed into her room. She groaned, slowly getting up from her bed.
"Coming!" Ciana called to her mother, Sophia. She took her phone from the glossy, white desk and quickly scrolled through any messages she might have missed. She heard mumbling noises coming from downstairs and occasional humming but decided to ignore them. Before she knew it, five minutes had gone by and her mother had been screaming her head off.
"Ciana, if I have to call you one more time I will be forced to take your phone away!" her mother yelled. Ciana briskly shoved her phone in her back pocket and sprinted downstairs, where her mother had been waiting with already cold breakfast. "Good morning, Ciana," her mother said, walking to her. Ciana smiled and walked to the bowl of cereal her mom had set for her.
"Good morning, mama," Ciana responded, sitting down. She took a spoonful of cereal and ate it, thinking about her school's schedule for the day.
"How did you sleep?" Sophia asked.
"Good," Ciana replied between spoons. "How did you sleep?" she asked her mother.
"Okay," her mother replied. As Ciana finished her final spoonfuls, Sophia smiled, admiring her daughter.
"How is Adele doing in school?" Ciana asked, getting up. She walked to her bag and slung it across her shoulder.
"She's doing fine. She has a show next Wednesday." Ciana hurriedly walked to her mom and embraced her. "I love you."
"I love you too, mama," Ciana replied, pulling away. She made her way to the door and opened it wide.
"Have fun at school!" her mother called behind her. I doubt that'll happen, Ciana thought, smiling. She hopped onto her bike and rode to school.
