5 Months Later

Peter stood in front of the park. Aaron mooney, a reporter for the local news channel stood next to him. A man held a camera in front of them. The man with the camera gave Aaron a thumbs up.

“Good morning Hubertown!” He said proudly. “I’m Aaron and I am joined by a very special guest today! Standing next to me is Police Chief Peter Arnold. Welcome Peter!”

“I’m only Chief until tomorrow Aaron.” Peter smiled awkwardly. “But good morning Hubertown!”

“That’s right. Would you like to announce that?” Aaron smiled.

“Sure. As of tomorrow, I will no longer be Chief of police in Hubertown.” Peter frowned. “Lets get back to this though…”

“It has been five months since the murders. Have police figured out what actually happened during those two and a half weeks?” Aaron asked.

“Yes.” Peter said. ‘We know exactly what it was.”

“Can you share what it was?” Aaron smiled as he looked from the camera to Peter.

“There was a mentally unstable couple that had Sundowning syndrome. It’s a syndrome that causes people to go insane when the sun goes down. It causes extreme mood swings and aggression. It can sometimes have somene commit the ultimate sin, murder.” Peter explained.

“So this syndrome affects them only at night?” Aaron asked.

“Only at night.” Peter repeated.

“There were three confirmed killers correct?” Aaron frowned.

“Yes. It was a couple and their daughter. The daughter was found in the burning building. She was taken to the hospital and recovered. After she confessed, they put her in King’s Hills, a mental hospital just outside of Hubertown.” Peter grinned.

“Any word on her?” Aaron asked.

“No.” Peter said. ‘But I would like to think she is getting the help she needs.”

She sat alone in the room. It was empty except for a bed in the far corner. She sat in the windowsill. She stared out into the stormy night. She pulled a knife from her sleeve, and held it. The door to her room opened. She quickly hid the knife back in her sleeve. She turned and looked to the door. Atall, strong man stood in the doorway.

“Jessie,” he said. “Someone is here to see you.”

Jessie smiled as she got up from the ledge. She walked over to the door and past the man. She stepped into the hallway and looked down at all of the rooms. The man lead her to the first floor and into a little room with two doors. Both doors locked from the outside, so she was locked in. Jeremiah stepped into the room with her.

“Everything went as planned?” He asked.
“Yes.” She smiled.

Noah sat on the yellow school bus. The bus bounced back and forth as it came across potholes the township was too lazy to fix. Eventually, his bus stop came. As the bus slowed down, he, Maranda, and Jeremy stepped off the bus. They walked up the pathway and up to the front door. Noah opened the door and stepped inside. Jeremy closed the door behind himself and took off his shoes.

“Hey Noah.” Peter’s voice called from the kitchen.

“What’s up Pete?” Noah asked as he stepped into the kitchen. “How was the interview?”

“I think it went okay.” Peter said as he finished cleaning the dishes. “How you doin’ Jeremy?”

“Pretty okay Peter!” Jeremy grinned,
