The Plane Incident

There it is, the smoke climbing to the clouds, the ashes pourring from above, the panic and the uncertainty of what just happened rising into an innocent little boy's mind. Right at the heart of a dense jungle unknown by anyone except the only survivor, the little boy called Lucas, is the ruins of a small passenger plane under tall flames. That plane incident ended some lives and started new ones at the same time. But let's not talk about this too early in yet such a big story to come.

The sun was at it's highest peak, the humidity rising untolerably and the boy's thirst growing more and more serious. For now, he doesn't have any other desire but to try to find a clean source of water.

Luckily the boy remembered seing during the last few moments in the plane a little farm with big fields of agriculture and other fields for the animals in the same direction as the sun. So for what he knew that was his best option.

He started walking towards that direction. Walking wasn't that hard except for all the branches and roots that could make you fall and hit your head on a rock which would result into a sudden death. Or of coarse without forgetting the risks of exposing yourself into such a wild place where any second from now a snake could appear from anywhere to bite you and before you even know it your laying on the floor slowly losing the control of every part of your body and finish by dying from the deadly snake's venom.

The boy was getting closer to the destination and started to hear the cows Mooo, he continued and could now hear some people talking and laughing loudly and a few steps more he could already see through the few trees left, the farm, the cows and the people. This was probably the first good news he has had today.

The boy rushed to the farm without the few men standing outside noticing. He entered the old house from the back as quietly as possible hoping noone was home since he didn't want to be thought a thief. He headed to the kitchen with each step making little cracks on the old wooden floor.

There it was, the sink! Eagerly, he jumped towards the sink and drank the fresh cold water dripping quickly from out of the tube. Little did the kid know, someone was standing while breathing heavily behind him. Lucas's heart started to pound quickly when he noticed an unexpected presence behind him, he turned around slowly.

Oof, relief, it was just a little boy, around 12 years old thought Lucas, he was smaller then Lucas and very thin almost as if he hadn't eaten well for days. He had short and greasy brown hair, his eyes were big an round, he had big and dark eye bags and a small sad face. The little boy seemed exhausted as if he was working too hard for his little body and he seemed like he would collapse at any second.

Lucas wasn't wrong, he had notice the little kid had a chain around his leg connecting him to the far corner of the kitchen wall. It came to his mind that these farmers weren't just farmers but slave keepers, slaves as young as this 12 year old desperate boy. Now the ideas seem to make more sense in lucas's mind because it explains all those people in dirty striped clothes he had seen before entering the house that were picking vegetables meanwhile others were planting seeds and others getting whipped by tall mean men ridding horses.

Knowing he is in danger, Lucas has to find a way out of this place but he knows that he can't just leave the poor kid with these evil men so he'll have to find a way to take the kid with him away from this place.

Lucas's past has thought him a lot about these situations so he is conscious of how dangerous these people can be but he also knows a lot about these kind of people which could help him in this situation.

For exemple, Lucas knows that the keys to unlock all the chains are always hidden in the master's bedroom's night table so he picked up all the courage he could and headed towards the stairs. The stairs just like the floor were cranking under each step Lucas was taking. While going upstairs the dust and the dirt itched Lucas's nose forcing him to sneeze.

-ATCHOUUU!!

The sound pierced the silence of the house and could be heard even outside. No more time to spare, Lucas ran the rest of the steps 2 by 2 and headed to the master bedroom where he checked the night table and was distressed to see that the keys he was anticipating weren't there.
Meanwhile outside one of the mean old man that was brushing his horse near the house heard the noise that came from inside. He immediately picked up the shotgun he kept leaning on the wall of the barn, inserted a few rounds in it and headed straight to the house.
The boy turned his head to the left where the bed was and noticed a shiny object peeking from under the pillow so he quickly lifted the pillow and noticed the keys he was looking for and by miracle some car keys. He immediately grabbed the loop of keys and headed to the door of the bedroom but then stood still when he heard loud steps coming from the kitchen and soon towards the stairs. Now this might not sound like a very effective plan but he did what he could in the little time he had; the boy opened the door completely and hid between the corner of the room and the door, you know, just like that very common hiding spot kids use when they play hide and seek but lack imagination.

The terrifying old man stopped at the entrance of the bedroom and cocked his shotgun when he saw that someone had opened all the drawers of the night table and made a mess with the bed covers. This was enaugh proof for the old man to confirm that there is an intruder hiding right now somewhere in the house since he wouldn't have had enaugh time to escape without the old man seing him.

The boy was horrified by the sight of the old man through the narrow crack of the wooden door and could only pray at that moment that he doesn't see him. The hunter stepped into the room and stood right infront of the night table to see inside it, then looked at the bed and finally back at the night table. The anxiety was too much so the kid knew he had to do something and fast.
This is it, he took that opportunity to quickly get out of behind the door, run out of the room and shut the door behind him locking the old man in that room. The man urged to the door and started pounding loudly on it when he saw that it was locked from the outside.

Lucas knew it wouldn't hold him for long and so he ran downstairs to the kitchen to join the other kid that was a little happy to see him even thought he always has a sad face. Lucas freed the kid, held his hand tightly and ran towards the exit of the kitchen that leaded to the side of the house where a red ford truck was parked. At that same instance, lucas heard a loud gunshot followed by a door swung open coming from upstairs so he knew that the old man was free too.

Once outside, lucas and the kid both jumped into the car, started the engine with the key lucas had found and drove out of the driveway to a small road where they could see the old man running while shooting in the air from the back of the car.

I have to say, the kids were both very happy to see the old man slowly disapearing from the horizon as they drove slowly along a calm and empty road curving along little hills and driving through huge plains with the beautiful sunset shining infront of them. All this beauty seemed to distract them temporarily from what just happened but all that quickly faded away when the two boys saw that the fuel tank was empty

They stopped right there, by the side of that desert road, under the beautiful sunset with nowhere to go, just waiting there with not one word to say, with the sun soon vanishing from the horizon being slowly replaced by a huge white sphere illuminating slightly the sky leaving the two silent kids sitting in the car into what seems to be complete darkness.
