-Alana-
"...Lana. Alana... ALANA!!" Somebody screamed. I bolted up, sitting straight and looking around. I reached for the hard, thick book resting on my bedside table and hoisted it up. "Wh... Who is there?" I mumbled. Suddenly I felt something cold touch my feet, which were partly covered by the bedsheet. "AARGH! Snake! Snake! Daddy!" I screamed as I rushed out of the room.
When I got to the stairs I sprinted down, nearly tripping down a few. That is not the matter right now... I had a snake touching my leg. Did it bite me? Oh no, I can feel the venom making its course through my body. Now the only two people who can help me is God and a doctor.
"Al? What happened?!" My dad came out of the kitchen with a pan, with smoky bacon. "Mhmm..." Shaking me, my Dad asked me, "What happened, Al?" I was blurting out random stuff. "There... Snake... Touch... I scream... Ran down... Bacon... Smell good."
"Hah, that was priceless!" A voice came from upstairs. Woah, snakes can talk these days? Probably some mad scientist injected a weird molecular chemical into the snake. But my theory was proved to be wrong when Christian came down the stairs. "I would pay a million dollars to watch that again." He laughed, in between gasps. "I wouldn't overexaggerate if i were you. And it wasn't that funny and I was not scared." I smile trying to sound believable. Christian is my older jerk. I meant brother, silly me, who goes to Princeton University. He got a sports scholarship there.
~After some time (10 minutes later to be exact)~
"Chris, I never knew that you were here." My Dad shouted over the beeping over the smoke detector. Apparently my Dad burned the bacon, more like scorched it. And his reason for burning the bacon was because 'he is hot'. He is 45 years old, yeah he is not that old.
"My stomach is starving." I shout, glancing at the time ever so often. "So, how's school, squirt?" Chris asks me. I inhale the sweet scent of the food as Dad puts a nicely arranged plate of pancakes with maple syrup in front of me. "Don't try to go all 'overly protective' brother on me. And it's going fine, not like it matters to you anyway." I reply back with a grin. "You're not grown up yet. And I'm still your brother so don't mess with me." Chris answers back.
~6:16 (10 minutes after)
"Get your ass down the stairs. It's already 6:29. I don't have the whole day!" My brother shouted from downstairs. I was going to an interview for a daycare, but this one ran in the night too. "I think my buttocks are fine where they are. By the way, it's 6:17, check the clock and get your facts straight smarty pants." I chuckle. I checked myself in the mirror once more. I was happy with my 5 foot frame.
Especially for the interview, I had on a turquoise-green turtleneck top and my size 3 skinny-jeans (I am in the petit women's section at the age of 16 already). Nevertheless, unlike most teenage girls at my school who are still pulling on size 1 jeans from the children's section and claiming that they don't gain 1 gram of weight (Pft... Like I believe that!), I actually respect my body. Yes people do criticize me about my weight, I won't say that I don't care but I don't get offended easily by them either.
Well enough talking Lana, you've got places to go, that would be the daycare, and people to meet, that would be the manager or the head of the daycare; my brain reminded me. "Look, I told you, I have to go somewhere. So will you please hurry up?!" Chris' voice boomed. I sighed and looked in the mirror once more. After fixing a strand of hair, I took my ultra-thin jacket and yelled back to Christian, "I know that you are dying to see me, but I need to look professional today."
