Ben wasn't your average boy, obviously. But he also wasn't lovey dovey like everyone thinks. He mostly kept to himself unless it came to his friend Toby. Him and Toby were very open with each other, but it was only ever awkward when Clockwork interrupted them playing video games or having any conversation, she did it to steal Toby for a while. Ben felt left out and a little hurt that Toby would choose a girl over him, but he shrugged it off.
Yeah, Ben was friends with Jeff or Jason or anyone else but he mostly liked to hang out with Toby. It just felt right.
"it's not weird to have a crush on your best friend." he would tell himself, "it'll just blow over and you can stop caring as much."
Some might say Ben was a little jealous of Clockwork and Toby's relationship, but honestly he just wanted his friend back.
Ben sat alone in his room, pigging out on junk food and pop. Playing Minecraft and destroying Jeff's house. He's gonna be pissed.
Ben turned to look at the time. His neck sore from just staring straight ahead at the tv screen for god knows how long.
It was 1:47 pm. He groaned and saved his progress, turning off the system. Toby flashed in his mind.
What was he doing right now?
Probably Clockwork.
Does he miss me?
He barely talks to me anymore probably not.
These things went through his mind until he shrugged it off.
"You shouldn't care this much.." Ben told himself, his heart and stomach hurting, a tight pain coiled in the bottom of his stomach and his heart felt like it was dropping. He sighed blinking away his tears and turning off the tv.
He cried that night.
Toby thought of Clockwork as a attention whore.
How she acted when he talked to other people made him think she was very territorial.
He just wanted to chill but instead Clockwork always took him out to do things, yes it was nice but after a while it just gets boring.
He mostly missed Ben. Toby felt maybe a little homesick, the thought of his best friend having to spend most of his day alone kinda hurt him. He wouldn't wanna be in that position if Ben got a girlfriend.
Toby sighed, scrolling through instagram on his phone, seeing all the thirst comments on his last post.
"You aren't even ready." Clockwork crosses her arms. Oh yeah they were supposed to go out on a date, but he forgot.
"Cant we just order a pizza and watch movies together? We always go out." He looked at her, setting his phone down.
"Um, No."
"Why not?" Toby asked, raising a eyebrow.
Clockwork scoffed.
Man she really liked spending money that isn't hers. "You just wanna stay here and... See Ben." She put her hands on her hips as if she was making a point, "right? You don't wanna spend time with me? Because of your 'best friend'? You haven't seen him for almost a week i'm pretty sure he hates you now for ditching him."
Toby glared at her. "Don't talk about him like that. And the only reason we haven't been spending time together is because of you. You don't like me talking to anyone besides you."
Clockwork groaned, "here we go again about the 'You aren't allowed to talk to anyone' thing because everything is apparently my fault."
Toby got up, "You know, when we first started dating i thought it would be fun because you were cool before but now you're just a bitch."
"Oh so we're name calling now?" Clockwork took her hair down from the ponytail it was in, the date was definitely canceled.
"Yeah. I guess we are."
Clockwork scoffed, licking her bottom lip then biting it. "Whatever i don't give a fuck." She huffed, putting her hands on her hips. "I've been sleeping with Jeff anyway so i don't need you." Toby was taken back by that response, but more relieved than anything. "It's cool i've been sleeping with.. Ben behind your back anyway." Toby got his phone. "It's a good thing you didn't move your shit into my room. Now get out." Toby demanded.
Clockwork stomped her foot and walked out of his room crying.
Toby groaned, sitting in the silence. His head pounding.
After a few minutes he got up to take some aspirin then went to Ben's room, knocking on the door.
"Please still be awake..." He spoke softly. Then the door opened.
"Toby?"
