AMY
I pressed myself further back into the darkness, praying to become invisible. He got closer and closer and closer, until-
"Dad!"
I breathed deeply, and peered through a crack in the door. Hylla was in the kitchen, her eyes flickering from cupboard to Dad. He lumbered forward.
"What are you doing up at this time, stupid girl?!" He snapped.
Hylla was unfazed, "I heard you bumping around in the dark, Father, I thought you might want some-"
She was cut off as Dad suddenly lunged forward. I almost cried when his hands closed on her bony throat. "I don't need help, from a...a...woman, let alone a silly little girl who can't even cook properly, not for herself or the man of the house. Useless filth, even worse than her mother!" He threw her down and stomped from the room. There was a tense silence.
Hylla lay still.
Then she sat up shakily, massaging her poor throat.
"Ames...?"Hylla croaked.
I burst from the cupboard and ran to her side, crying with anger.
"Don't cry, Amy, I'm fine."
"Oh, don't say that!" I sobbed. "I sat back and did nothing while he strangled you!"
"Amy..."
"No, I have had it! We are getting out of here!"
