" Go to sleep......"
Nina read that line over and over again. The words being ingrained into her brain.
"Go....to sleep...."
Nina whispered. Although it didn't sound as cool when she said it. It just sounded like she was trying too hard.
"Nina,"
She heard a voice call from outside her door. She quickly changed the tab to some random article about an up and coming korean pop band.
"Mom said it's time to eat."
Nina's little brother, Chris, said busting Nina's door wide open. She groaned. She loved her little brother, but he never understood the meaning of privacy.
"Here I come my prince."
Nina smiled closing her laptop. Chris groaned hating the nickname.
Chris was too young to remember, but whenever they were younger her father would play make believe with them. He would always make Chris the Prince, while he was the dragon, and Nina was the princess who needed saving.Nina sat at the dinner table. Staring at the empty seat at the end of the table. Her dads seat. Her mother kept this table even after her father died. She even kept the chair, but no one dared to sit at it. Her father died when she was 9. Her father was a Botanist. The police said her father died of a heart attack. Nina never believed that. Especially since when she found her fathers dead body his neck was snapped.
"Nina did you take your medicine today?"
"Sí, mama."
A year after that is when it started. The exhaustion, disassociating, and mild amnesia. Her mother got her help immediately, and the psychologist said it was depression. She was put on antidepressants. She's been on antidepressants for years, and yet it didn't feel like things were getting better.
The next morning Nina and Chris got up for school. Nina threw on a black sweater, with some random purple design on it, and some baggy adidas sweatpants. It was the first day at this new school. Nina's mom thought it would be best for a change of scenery, so she moved them into the suburbs.
Nina dragged herself into the bathroom. She looked in the mirror running her fingers through her curly hair. Her roots were dark and her hair slowly lightened until the tips of her hair which was a faded out hot pink. She sighed opening the medicine cabinet. She pulled out her bottle of Prozac, before running the water in the sink. She filled her cup of water before swallowing the small pill. She stood there for a moment. Staring at herself in the mirror. She had blue eyes, a lot like her dad, and her mom, the artistic one, described the color as "cornflower". It wasn't a bright blue nor an ice cold piercing blue. It was just a plain blue. Nothing special about it.She walked downstairs,
" Are you ready for school?"
Her mother asked,
"Sí, mama."
Nina said placing her hands in her pockets.
"Have fun at school!"
Her mother smiled leaving to go back into the kitchen.
"Bye mama!"
Both Nina and Chris yelled at the same time.
Nina and Chris both opted to walk to school instead, because buses were full of annoying people. The high school was around the corner from the elementary/middle school, so Chris and Nina ended up going their separate ways. Nina wasn't really the biggest fan of school, just like most high schoolers, but she went anyways knowing her mother would kill her if she skipped.
