"Hey Narinder!" I said to the Asian girl in front of me. It was a  comfort to know that there was someone here that was from the same country and area as me; even though I had never met them before.

"Hi! ...Ginder right?" She smiled back at me. She was really pretty, with long black hair (that was in a fish braid today), hazel eyes, a small nose and a perfectly shaped mouth.

"Yep! What class you in?" I asked her.

"Same as you, I think. 12D?"

"Let's see your timetable."

The bell rang, really loudly, making us both jump.

"Well that's gonna take long to get used to!" she said, as we both laughed, and set off in search of our classroom.

I was quite nervous to be in this school. So far I had only made one friend (well she's the closest person to a friend) and the fact that nobody I knew came to this school, didn't help one bit. I was quite popular in primary and secondary school and I had lot's of friends. But then, this was sixth form. I had heard alot of stories about people bullying others and stuff from my older cousin and it didn't really make me more excited to go to sixth form.

"Ginder!"

I snapped out of my thoughts and saw someone waving to me from the back of the classroom, trying to cover two consecutive desks near the radiator with her hands. I hurried over and realised it was Narinder.

"Haha thanks! You didn't have to!" I gave her a warm smile. Personally, I like sitting at the front because sometimes I would forget my contact lenses and I wouldn't be able to see the board. I didn't really like copying from the person next to me in case they copied from the borad wrong, but seeing as she was my only friend so far, I didn't want to upset her.

I got out all my books and laid them out perfectly parallel to my pencil-case and planner. Narinder stared at me and raised a perfectly threaded eyebrow, but didn't say anything. She got out her books and dumped them on her desk. I looked at her-shocked that anyone could dump their books like that. She saw me looking and laughed. I joined in.

We were two of the first people to arrive at the classroom, so we sat in silence as we waited for the rest of the class to come in. A boy rushed in. His glasses were lopsided and he was dragging his half-open bag along the floor. He was kinda cute I suppose. He saw me looking and grinned.

"This seat taken? Am I late?" He asked, adjusting his glasses

I looked away, embarrassed. "Nah you're not, and go on, sit."

He sat down and held out his hand. "Darren," he said, still grinning.

"Ginder," I smiled, my embarassment instantly vanishing.

"Ahem." I turned around. Narinder was looking at me expectantly. I laughed,

"And this is Narinder,"

He leaned over my desk to shake her hand. "Darren. Pleased to meet you, miss."

The lesson went smoothly and it wasn't that hard. Our teacher was a really nice one called Dr. Ellis.

*Break time*

I was in the canteen eating a snack with Narinder, when Darren walked in. He looked around and a group of boys waved to him. He spotted us and grinned. He waved back at them and came and sat with us. "Heya ladies! What's up?"

I giggled. "Nothing much. You?"

"Nothing! So you know anyone here?"

"Nope. Only Narinder. We met on the induction day. How about you?"

"Yeah, I was here last year. My mates who decided to stay on for secondary with me." He nodded in the direction of the boys who had waved to him, who were now chatting in a small circle.

Narinder was gazing at him. It was kinda obvious really. I noticed it, so did Darren. He didn't say anything-just smiled knowingly, making her blush. I have to admit, he isn't a bad looking boy.

"Where you from?" Narinder suddenly asked.

"England."

"Your parents?" I asked.

"You should have been clear!" he winked. "Sri Lanka. How about you guys? You both look like Sri Lankan girls, I have to say!"

"Yep we are!" Narinder said.

"Oh cool! Join the club! All my friends over there are Sri Lankan. Or half." He lead us to them.

"Hey guys! Meet Ginder and Narinder!"

They all smiled and looked really friendly. "Which one of them is your girlfriend?" joked the one who looked the oldest. Darren blushed; so did Narinder and I.

Darren smacked him playfully on the head. "Shup, Kevin! Oh yeah, This is Kevin, Hathisan, Sanjay and Kajinthan. Oh and that's Abalacha." His face grew stormy as he mentioned the last name. Abalacha glared at me. "Hey."

"Um...hi."
