"I'm never going to be like you, dad. They won't accept a girl to fight."

"Then you have to fight your way through, Heidi. Show them that you want this."

"But they are only looking for men. And look at me! I'll never be like you..."

"Whatever you say... Henry."

"Henry?! I don't get it..."

"Tell them that your name is Henry. Either cut your hair or hide it. Do whatever it takes to look like a man."

"Will you help me?"

"Of course I will. But just promise me one thing..."

"What, dad?"

"If they accept you... Please, don't die. I need you to promise that, Heidi."

"I promise."

"Good. Let's go."

"Paul..."

I woke up to a groggy voice repeating the same name.

"Paul!"

I slowly opened my eyes and groaned. "I'm not Paul..." I croaked out.

My head was in so much pain. I still felt a little dizzy. I slowly moved my head, trying to ignore the pain.
I saw Daniels and another soldier lying on the ground with me.

"Green..?" Daniels murmured, holding his head. "Shit are you okay?" He asked.
I glanced up at his face and noticed blood trickling from his jaw. I nodded and pointed at his face.
"I could ask you the same." I mumbled and he touched the blood before groaning.

"You're bleeding too, ya know?" He asked rhetorically. I noticed my helmet was on the ground next to me and I could then feel blood running down the side of my head.
"Shit." I muttered lowly and sighed heavily.

Daniels stood up and noticed the other soldier's lifeless body. "Briggs! Oh, God..."
I looked away and put my helmet back on.
Daniels walked over to me slowly and held his hand out for me. I grabbed his hand and he helped me stand up.

"We need to find the assembly point." Daniels told me as he pulled out a pistol. I nodded and picked up my M1 Garand. I was still in shock. I thought we were gonna die.

We jumped down the steep edge and I gasped at the sight. A soldier, hung by his own parachute, covered in blood.
"Jesus..." Daniels said in disgust.
I stayed close with Daniels as we crouched under trees.

"What if Turner thinks we're dead?" I asked him quietly, he let out a sigh.
"Then we'll just have to surprise him." He replied.

We jumped down again but the sound of a dog barking alarmed me.
"Oh, shit!" Daniels raised his voice. He quickly shot the dog before it could attack us.

"Shh!" I hushed him as I noticed enemies were ahead. We crouched behind rocks and waited for them to walk by.
Once they left, we sneaked away. I clutched my rifle just in case and hoped for a way out.

"We surrender!" I faintly heard a soldier yell. I shot my head to Daniels who motioned for me to follow.
"Wait! Stop!" The soldier yelled again.
As we got closer, we heard screams of our men... In agony. I saw a fire and my eyes widened.
"No!" Daniels yelled as our men were burned to death.
The screams soon came to an end along with the burning fire. I shut my eyes tightly and let out a shaky breath.
