P.O.V.

                           Elle

As I slowly but carefully sneak out the front door with nothing but a jacket, a backpack, some food supplies and some extra clothes, I reluctantly pace down the cold, hard sidewalk winding down the hills in my neighborhood.

I really should have thought this through a little more thoroughly, because now, I have no idea whatsoever on what to do.

Should I go to my friends house??

Nah, her mom would tell mine, and I would get sent back. Plus, I bet that she's already sleep.

What about a McDonald's?

Nope. They'd be wondering what a little girl like me would be doing all alone in the middle of the night, and they might ring up the police. But it's not like my mom would'nt notice that i'd left, either.

But once again, logically thinking, the McDonald's is like, 3 whole miles away from where I live, and I just can't handle the stress of that walk with all of the weight that I'm carrying on my back. Literally.

You know what? Being homeless would be much more work than just dealing with an asshole of a "father".

As I realize this and start to head back home, I hear a faint voice calling my name.

Immediately, I yell.

"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU, AND WHAT DO YOU WANT!?"

"Elle, it's just me! You know, Terrell! I just want to talk to you," they whispered back.

"Terrell?? What the heck are you doing out this late??"

"Well what are YOU doing out this late?"

"I asked you first,"

"Well I asked you second, so"

"What does that prove?"

"My point exactly"

I just sigh at him. I'm pretty sure why he was up so late, but I wanted to know what he had to say.

"Well I was just about to run away from home because I got tired of all the drama that was happening in there with my mom and my dad arguing, not that it's any of your buisness,"

It wasn't the complete truth, but then yet again, it was my personal information, and this kid is known for spreading nasty rumors about someone.

"Oh. I'm sorry to hear that."

I can't lie and say that I was genuinely surprised when he didn't say something bitchy like usual whenever I had said something. But then again he was only super mean to me when we were at school. I guess it was because showing girls respect and admiration was considered a sign of weakness towards all boys.

Ugh, them and their competitiveness is going to be the end of us all.

" I'm out here because I guess of the exact same reason. Except my grandparents are fighting,"

He chuckles to himself.

"I mean, have you ever seen two old couple arguing with each other? It's absolutely ridiculous! There all like, 'Frank where are my prunes,' and like 'Norma, where are my dentures,' and it's so funny that I had to step out of the house before they started hearing me laugh,"

We both just sat there in his tree house, cracking up.

If Mia were here right now, she would murder me for even talking to this douche-bag. But she's not.

After a while of laughing, he slowly sobered up and stared off into the distance, lost in his deep thoughts.

And that's when it occurred to me;

That whole story that he just told, didn't make any sense, at all.

First of all, why in the world would his grandparents up "arguing" at 1:37 in the morning? I mean, aren't they a little too old for that? Unless they were doing... other stuff.

I shivered at my own terrible thoughts.

Second of all, why was Terrell still up this late, and 3rd of all, what was he thinking about that could possibly cause him to sober up so quickly? Usally he would continue to make jokes until you felt like you had to pee your pants!

To be completely honest, Terrell really wasn't a bad guy. So I don't know why he was lying to me about his "funny grandparents" fighting in the middle of the night! We practically told each other everything. We were pretty close, just not as close as me and Nick are. I mean, Nick could be my brother! Well, he could be a little more than just my brother.

But no way would I ever admit that to him. He would probably just laugh at my face!

And Terrell, well, he was more like a regular ol' friend than anything else. It doesn't get awkward between us, because I have plenty of guy friends. Like, there's Drake, Andrew, Dylan, Lucas, and of course Terrell and Nick. I was practically friends with every single guy in my grade! And all of the girls think that it's either because i'm a lesbian, all the boys think i'm really pretty, or they think that I am 'only friends with boys because i'm a thirsty slut' or because 'I have no one else that wants to hang out with me, because i'm a weirdo'. Well here's what i say back to them;

"All of you bitter bitches better get off my chiz! You don't know my pain! You don't know my story!"

Pretty lame, I know, but i'm really bad at making insults.

As soon as I snap out of my thoughts and finally realize how late it really is, I excuse myself.

"Well, i'd better go now. I forgot that it's a school night,"

"Ok, that's cool,"

"Bye Terrell,"

He replies absentmindedly as I proceed to turn back around the corner, leading to my house.

I turn the key in the lock, and then ever so slowly step into the house.

I looked at the clock in the corner, and it was now 2:05am.

I creep back upstairs into my room, only to find that the light was on, and my window was cracked.

Huh, that's funny, I could've sworn that I made sure the house was completely locked and dark, I thought.

And that's when I saw the shadow of a shaggy haired little boy, sitting on my window sill, admiring a picture of me.

It was Nick.
