It is common knowledge throughout the entire world that every person has a soulmate, a perfect match, a person's other half. Every soulmate relationship differs. Some are purely platonic while others are romantic, but one fact remains the same for each. Your soulmate is the person you want to be with most. The person you value over any other. It is the person you can trust your deepest darkest secrets with, the person who can make you laugh when your eyes are full of tears. They are the piece of yourself that you were missing.
Soulmates are a biological phenomenon that begins when a person hits puberty. You are drawn to your soulmate's smell. Like some animal instinct, you can smell your soulmate further than anything else. You can find them in a packed mall with ease. Pick them out of a crowd of hundreds. Every pair has a unique color and odor that only they can see and smell. A person can see their partners smell in the air like a colored breeze or mist. It floats around them like a glowing aura. Once you find your soulmate you are instinctively drawn closer. Invisible strings that forge a bond to last a lifetime.
Most people don't find their soulmate until they've reached their twenties or later. Some don't connect until well into their forties and others are lucky enough to have grown up with the soulmate and have them by their side their whole life. Once you find your soulmate it is impossible to let them go. Your body begins to crave your other half, releasing chemicals in your body the more you're around them.
Some pairs experience unique adaptations, only seen with those who have a bond stronger than most. There have been rare cases where both soulmates' eyes change colors when eye contact is made. Others have reported that they have better eyesight or can sense when their partner needs help or is in trouble. Those whose bonds are strongest gain unique abilities like these.
But for most of the population, it is just another part of life. Completely ordinary and normal to want to find your soulmate.

Going to the same schools, walking together every day to class. You wanted to spend every moment possible with her.
There were so many days that you prayed that she would be the one. When you were told what soulmates were, your first thought was her. You wanted so badly to be able to spend every day of your life with her. You wanted to prove to her that your feelings were real and that you were meant to be together. She was to be your one true soulmate. Unfortunately, things don't always work out the way you hope for. Kids can be cruel and cause lasting damage without even realizing it.
