Sarah has always been a puzzling girl, ever since elementary school. She would take my toys and hit me whenever I would try to take them from her. Eventually, when I gave up she would give them back to me. It became our routine, every day she would take one of my favourite toys and I would have to chase her around to try and get it back. Sarah never said much but whenever we played her dimples showed when she smiled and her eyes sparkled. That said enough to me.

Sarah has had my heart ever since and we became best friends. Sarah continued her game even when we got to high school, she would steal my notes and no matter how I annoyed I got or how much I begged she would laugh and never give them back. But whenever I replaced my notes that she took she would give them back. I never knew why she felt the need to play that game with me.

Sarah continued to puzzle me. After a while, Sarah started to change specifically, when we got to university. She spoke to me less, skip classes and would go off for days at a time without telling anyone where she was going. Not even her parents. Not even me. The first time she left it caused a lot of problems, this never happens in Silverburg County so naturally, everyone went crazy. I went crazy.

Her parents reported her missing to the police and everyone was on high alert, the search parties were endless. Even people from the nearby town, Goldsburg went looking for her. We were distraught. I was distraught. Then rumors began to spread like crazy. Students at my university started saying that she got pregnant and she ran away and the teachers followed in pursuit and fed into the lies but I was too smart to believe any of that. I knew her better than that. Or so I thought.

A week later she came back to town and acted as if nothing happened. I remembered it like it was yesterday. It was Friday night when I came back home for the weekend and I heard someone tapping on my bedroom window. I looked over at my window and saw Sarah holding on to my window sill. I ran over to the window and opened it. She climbed in and dusted her dress off and threw her backpack on the ground.

"Damn could you have opened the window any slower?"

I was shocked. All I could do was stare at her. I couldn't believe it, Sarah was standing in front of me. She took her shoes off then sat on my bed.

She smiled. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

Is she serious right now?

"I don't know, maybe its because you've been gone for a week, Sarah."

She shrugged and lied down on my bed. I walked over to my bed and lied down beside her.

She let out a sigh then smiled at me. "I've missed you, Lucas."

"I missed you too Sarah but I need to know where you've been."

"I visited some friends in Goldsburg," she muttered.

"What friends are you talking about? Why is this the first time you're telling me about them?"I questioned.

"Because it never came up."

I narrowed my eyes. "Because it never came up? Are you serious Sarah? What kind of stupid excuse is that?"

She got up and put her backpack on. "Lucas I didn't come all this way for you to interrogate me, so stop it and let's go."

I stared at her incredulously. "You want to go out right now?"

I looked over at the clock above my bed and it showed the unlucky hour 3:00 am.

She sauntered over to me and took my hand in hers. "Yes, Lucas we're gonna go on a little adventure."

I wasnt too fond of going out this late but I haven't seen Sarah in a while and my thoughts were all over the place. Nonetheless, I agreed. I grabbed my wallet, phone, and car keys and we took off into the cold morning air.
