It's been a long day. 5 full classes and no study periods and I'm exhausted. When I get home I dump my bag in my room and go get another poptart to snack on. I'm just putting my books on my desk getting ready to study when I hear light taps on my window. I look out and there's Xander throwing pebbles at my window and smiling at me. Xander is my neighbour and best friend. It all started when we were kids and he moved in next door. He offered me half of his red skin which solidified our friendship and the rest is history. His window is directly opposite to mine which meant there was a lot of sending paper aeroplane notes and we even learnt morsecode to communicate with each other at night when our parents had told us to go to bed. We're basically family and there's no one I trust more.
"Hey nerd, quit studying and come hang out" he says from his window with a cheeky grin. I turn back to my books, "go away Xander if I don't study and get good scores and go to a good university who's going to support your broke ass". "Hey! I can just find myself a sugar daddy I don't need you" he replies. I laugh and stop ignoring him. "Seriously T it's a Friday night and the thought of you at home studying is truly depressing and will ruin my night out" he gives me the puppy eyes and pouts. I roll my eyes, "you're pathetic I'm not going I have a SAC on Monday". "Please just come to the game, it's the qualifier between St Euphraises and MacKenzies, everyone will be there and I honestly think we have a chance of winning and making it into finals." I think about it. The game will only be a couple of hours and I do have the rest of the weekend to study. "Okay I'm in"
As we pull up to the stadium I'm shocked at how many people are here. Our school oval is lit up by the stadium light and I can see it's filled with people, crowded around the stands, trying to find their seats. The school band is setting up on field and the cheerleaders are warming up. Our school mascot, a large green dragon, is running around the field trying to hype people up. "Wow you weren't lying everyone really is here" I tell Xander. "Exactly" he replies, "which is why you would have been SUCH a loser staying home". I poke my tongue out at him and he laughs at me as he pulls into a parking spot. Just as I'm getting out the car and about to cross the road, Xander roughly pulls me back just in time as a black motorbike w whizzes past. "Hey watch where you're going dickhead!" Xander yells, wrapping his arms around me protectively. Even though I know my bestfriend is just a big softie, his tall stature and large build make him pretty scary when he's angry. And he's always had a quick temper that he's learnt to deal with over the years. I remember when we were kids whenever he got mad his dad would have to take him into the woods behind our houses where he would help Xander calm down. "Are you okay?" he asks, his eye filled with concern. I'm just about to answer when we here the revving of an engine and see the motorbike turning around and coming back to us. Uh oh.
The rider pulls up right in front of, gravel flying everywhere. As they take off their helmet, my eyes widen. It's him. The new boy I saw this morning. He swings his leg easily over his big Harley and gets right up in Xander's face, "want to say that again?" he says menacingly. "What are you deaf or something? I said watch it, you almost hit my friend here" Xander snaps back, not backing down. "Well maybe your friend should watch where she's going, I can see it's a bit of a habit of hers" the new boy snarls. Wait what? "Wtf is that supposed to mean? You don't even know me, we've never met" I say, now I'm getting mad. "Well we met this morning when you almost hit me with your car" he replies back smirking at me. Oh fuck. I feel embarrassed but I can't show it. "That was both of our faults and I'm sorry about that but it doesn't give you an excuse to act like a jerk new boy" I reply back and with that I turn on my heels and grab Xander by the arm walking away quickly and keeping my head held high. "My name's Hunter" he calls out from behind me. "I don't care!" I yell back, not turning around. I can hear him chuckle in the distance and roll my eye, jerk.
"Wait did he say his name was Hunter?" Xander asks. "Yeah" I reply, "why?" "My dad's friend who just moved to town has a son named Hunter and I was supposed to help him out, making friends and all that. I think that was him" he says, his brows furrowed. "It's fine Xan don't worry no one could be friends with that guy, don't waste your time trying" I tell him. Just the thought of that asshole makes my face heat up. Who does he think he is? Walking around like he owns the school. "Hey Tenzin over here!" I turn around and see my friend Georgia calling to me. I lead Xander up to our seats and sit down. I tell them all about what just happened in the parking lot. "Wow that new guy is such a jerk!" my friend Zel says. "Yeah I know right Xander basically had to hold me back I was about to start swinging, right Xan?" I turn to Xander but he's frowning and lost in his own world, still looking very concerned. What is up with him? Before I can ask him I'm interrupted by the loud speaker booming across the stadium. "Ladies and gentlemen please take your seats as the game is about to begin!"
