"You're looking rosy but not very pregnant yet niña. Next time I see you it'll be very different." Macy hugged her and looked at her assessingly.
"I'm not waddling for sure, and yes you're right, at first glance I think I look like I've just put on a bit of weight with my curves. I'm so glad you made it here this week, Macy." Clara returned Macy's hug. "I've was so looking forward to this and I'm sad that you have to head home. I'm really happy that your mama's health has improved though."
"Sí niña so am I, but I'm glad my sister could keep an eye on her while I've been away. And I too have loved seeing you and catching up."
"Have a seat Macy. Put your feet up and I'll get us a cup of tea." Clara indicated to the dining table in the kitchen. She had decided to make Macy's leaving dinner in Bella's large kitchen rather than at her small apartment.
"I should be doing that for you niña." Macy started to rummage around in the kitchen.
"I know where everything is and I'm perfectly capable. Relax, it's my last chance to spoil you for a while."
"Where's everyone?" Macy asked, acquiescing and placing herself in a chair at the dining table and noticing that they were the only ones in the house.
"Bella has taken her mum out for the day, she wanted to give you and me some alone time. And Oliver is still at work but will pop by later."
"That boy is fantastic." Macy looked at her meaningfully. Clara had told Macy about the way Oliver felt about her.
"You've seen for yourself how great he is Macy," she sighed deeply. "I can't deny that he's been wonderful in every way."
Macy looked at her worriedly. "I'm glad I got to spend a little bit of time getting to know him better this time around." Macy paused as if debating her next sentence. "I didn't want to mention this but I think you should know that Luca paid for my mama's treatment when he found out of her illness niña. He made arrangements for her to see the best cardiologists in London. He's been asking me about you."
Clara stopped slicing the gateau, pausing to glance up at Macy grimly. "He's just trying to draw you in with his charm Macy, he wants something from you. I've seen it work on many women, he has just never directed it at me."
"I've seen a different side to him over the last few weeks niña," Macy said gently.
"I have no doubt he can show affection and even love if he was so inclined. He told me once that he had a heart, but just not for me," Clara's heart still wrenched involuntarily at those words.
"Oh niña," Macy looked at her sadly, and added, cautioning. "I think he feels differently now."
"I don't know why he would. I've given him no reason to. Anyway, let's not dwell on it." Clara mustered a smile on her face. "I'm making paella tonight, your favorite and obviously I'm using your recipe."
"I'll look forward to that niña." Macy beamed.
"It happens to be Oliver's favorite as well," she beamed at Macy. "So far, he's loved all of your recipes that I've tried out on him."
"He has good taste then," Macy's eyes twinkled at her.
"Yes his tastes are impeccable and his appetite is endless."
"The ideal boyfriend then?" Macy fished, prodding her with amused eyes.
"He's not far off perfect I'll admit Macy. I'm just in limbo at the moment and I don't feel it's fair dragging him into my mess."
"Maybe you should let him choose niña."
"I have feelings for him but I truly believe that things will get complicated if I don't reign it in and sort my issues out first."
