Chapter Four

{W I L L}

||Michigan, 2011||

Will fiddled with his new phone. Apple had just come out with the new iPhone 4S, and he had gotten one for his birthday. He didn't really understand all the buttons and apps and things, but it was fun to show off. All his friends were jealous.

Marcus bumped him with his elbow. "Someone's here to see you," he said in a sultry voice.

Will turned. It was Courtney.

She was wearing her favorite tight shirt and a mini skirt, her long blonde hair cascading in waves down her back. She sidled up to Will. "Hey, baby," she said, twining her fingers with hers.

The old spark that Will used to have when she did this was gone, blown away by her cattiness. He was going to break up with her soon. Truthfully, he didn't know why he had started dating her in the first place. Maybe it was peer pressure, maybe something else; he didn't know.

He also didn't really care.

"Hey, Court," he said, trying to hide his exasperation at her attitude.

Courtney turned away from him to rummage through her purse. Marcus and Will took advantage of this to roll their eyes at each other.

"Babe, can you come over tonight?" Courtney asked. She pulled her phone out of her purse and started typing. Probably texting her other stuck-up friends.

Will quickly came up with an excuse not to. "Sorry, Court, I can't. We have a family dinner tonight."

Courtney pushed out her lower lip. "Oh, babe, okay. I'm sorry."

She said 'babe' way too much.

||Scotland, 2012||

Will was pulled out of the memory by his sister singing "Shower" in the shower. How ironic.

He hated that song.

Will pulled out his computer and fired up The Dark Knight Rises. He sank into his bed with his laptop perched on his legs and lost himself in the movie.
