You settle into your third cup of coffee. The dark haze of the midnight sky does not help to ease your fretful nerves. Swirling clouds obscure the moon, to the point where even a dull glow is unfeasible. It, like you, can only wish and plea that the morrow brings with it salvation in the form of respite. The window frame encloses the outside world like it was a haven filled to the brim with sweet release. For you however; this sanctuary is far out reach. You have work to do. You guide your weeping eyes back to the harshly bright computer monitor and begin to type. What you inscribe you do not know; the individual letters have become meaningless lines on the page. Sorrowfully, you gave up attempting to comprehend the insane babble scrawled across page after page.

The hairs on the back of your neck creep on end as the creek of the floor boards behind becomes clamorous. She’s moving. The sound of clacking buttons on your keyboard quickens as you panic. Thoughtlessly, you type word after word as you hurry to write something, anything to make her leave you in peace. The creek begins to die down as you sigh in relief. It was the same the night before, and the night before that. She stays in the room as you write. She will make sure that you work until you faint from sheer exhaustion. Even if you are able to sleep that night, she haunts you until you wake up screaming. The riving tentacles crudely protruding from her ridged, splintered, spine contort as they crush the fraying ends of your sanity. You whimper your shaky breath dies down again. Breath in, 1, 2, 3. Breath out, 1, 2, 3, 4. The sheer weight of your exhausted mind makes your head fall limply into your rough, hardened, hands. Unable to work any longer you simply sit there as you feel your senses swim into the endless waters of the unconscious. Images of her creep into you, crawling and prowling into your very emotions. Yet, with the last drop of your courage you let yourself slip into slumber. The character will have to wait for another night. That is all she is after all.
