What is This Place?

It was raining. Cold and raining. Castiel had forgotten his umbrella, not checking the weather, stupid idea really.

Being the new kid in school is weird, being the new kid in high school? That was horrible. Castiel didn't know where any of his classes were, he didn't know who belonged where, who to trust and who not to trust.

Castiel was terrified. He didn't let it show, but he was. He kept his eyes forward, hands around his backpack straps.

It takes him forever, but he finally finds the main office. How many offices does a school need? Three apparently.

Holding the door open, for what looked to be a freshman, Castiel couldn't make eye contact, not that he thinks the other tries to. At least he said thank you. So there was at least one polite person so far. Even if he was probably two grades lower than him.

He looks at the three women; attendance, fees, and check in. Taking a deep breath, he walks towards check in. "Hello, I'm Castiel Novak."

The woman looks up, "Castiel Novak!" He nods. "Oh, it's so good to have you. You're our first new kid in almost two years. It's so exciting." Two years without a new kid in the district? He's going to die.

"My name's Mrs. Haight, I work mostly with setting up appointments with councilors and when the nurse isn't here, I help out in there.

"Over there's Mrs. Eliot , she works on paying fees. Trip fees, school pride, yearbook fees. Any time you need to pay for something, you go to her.

"And this is Ms. Yanev, if you're ever late or need to check out, she'll signature your permission slip."

Castiel nods stiffly, "Good to know. Um. Schedule?"

Mrs. Haight smacks her hand on her forehead, "Oh, of course, sorry. Almost forgot the most important thing." She prints the paper, checking it over. "Okay." She begins pointing out his information as if he can't see it himself. "This is your student I.D. number, this is your locker and locker combo, these are your classes. The right side shows where they are. As you can see some of them are in the main building which is great."

"Uh, I don't know where any of my classes are—"

"That's okay, one of our student assistants offered." She looks over his shoulder, "Dean!" Castiel follows her gaze.

The boy waves, "Hey, Mrs. H, how are you?" His smile is bright.

Mrs. Haight smiles back, "Everything's good, both here and home. How're you?"

"Good, good." He looks over at Castiel. "Dean Winchester."

"Novak. Castiel Novak." He introduces, sticking his hand out.

Dean takes it, "James Bond, nice." Mrs. Haight goes back to typing on her computer. "Can I see your schedule?"

"Of course."

Dean looks it over. "We have first period science Mrs. Sandford, you're taking theatre arts?" Castiel looks down, nodding. "Awesome. And choir? Damn." Castiel smiles just a bit. "Fourth period maths with Mrs. Sault together, you have yoga with Ms. Macentire, and English with Mrs. Rasmussen. We share science, math and English. The three high school basics."

Castiel smiles a little bigger, glad to know he would have someone there with him.

Dean led him out into the hall, "This is the main building, none of your classes are on the first floor, commons is to the right, science and English is second floor, science west wing, English east, simple as that, library is third floor."

"How big's the library?" Castiel asks suddenly.

Dean side glances him, smirking. "You're just one big nerd, aren't you? Theatre arts, choir, libraries. What's next, you actually do homework in your free time?"

Castiel squints his eyes, "Well—"

Dean laughs, "Don't even answer that. Ugh, what are you? A robot?"

Castiel smirks, "Well—"

"You're horrible," Dean jokes. "Anyway, library takes up the majority of the floor, there's just a couple of classrooms, mostly computer science, advanced French and Spanish, that kind of thing." Dean leads them out of the main building, leading him into a separate one. "This is the PAC, preforming arts centre. You'll have your choir and theatre classes in here, the auditorium are the first double doors when you walk in, your teachers are Mrs. Salcedo and Mr. Darrow. Don't know either of them, so I can't really give you any details on them."

Castiel takes his schedule from Dean's hands, taking a look. "What's N204?"

"That's north campus, second floor, room four. North campus is where the math classes and freshmen science classes are. Fare warning, the bridge freezes over really easy, like, anything below forty degrees."

"We have to cross a bridge to get to north campus? How big is this place?" Castiel didn't realize how much space the school took up.

His last school had the main building, only two stories, where science, math and English were all held, east campus only had one floor, there, language arts and all the preforming arts were held in there, there wasn't even an auditorium.

The gymnasium was where they held choral concerts, spring musicals, rallies, assembly. Any time they had to get the students in one place, the gymnasium was overflowing.

The cafeteria had its own building, mostly because students weren't aloud to eat outside, so they had to fit everyone.

"—Ms. Macentire is cool, I guess. I hear as long as you dress down and don't slack off, she won't hate you, so." Dean drags off. "Do you do anything exciting?"

Castiel looks over, "I enjoy bee watching."

Dean laughs so hard he has to stop walking, he's bending forward.

"That isn't funny, Dean, bee watching is very exciting. Outside in my garden, I follow honeybees. I found a route of flowers. It's all right there, nothing to add." Castiel has a small smile on his face. "I even have my own been farm, just a little crate."

When he looks over at Dean, the other looks fascinated. "You're a bee farmer?"

"Bee keeper, although I do make my own honey."

Dean smiles, "You really like bees, don't you?"

"Yes. I quite enjoy their company. Sometimes my brother, Gabriel, will make flower crowns with me and let the bees buzz around our heads."

"That sounds . . ." Dean sounds at a loss for words, Castiel waits patiently. "Peaceful."

"It is." He confirms.

Dean clears his throat, "Well, Mrs. Sandford is back this way, c'mon. We don't wanna miss the entirety of first period." Castiel follows as Dean leads them to their first class.

Castiel enjoyed Dean's company. He hoped they got to know each other better.
