In the months that followed, I moved into an apartment near Leonarde and Aines house. Aine offered me a spot within her coven of healers. Sitting me down and telling me my new position as a messenger between Hela and Nuwa was not all that different from being a healer. I was just an early warning, a way to see the signs and save people if the signs were showing early. Death could be stopped if the Goddess's wanted me to see the signs early.
But my touch, I have found, could put people in a state of ease. A type of anesthesia.
I leaped at the offer. Maxwell himself was there, and despite the fact I had never finished my training officially, made me a full-fledged witch. Gifting me my witch pendant, a raven, the symbol of Hela. The more I trained and was apart of Aines coven, the more I eventually found myself.
My sisters were locked away, but Vinnie managed to send a letter. I had ignored it at first, but curiosity ate at me. It was partly an apology letter, but for the most part- it was an explanation. She was not in on the plan to experiment on me until the day of. Our sisters threatened that she could choose between me- or her beloved cousin.
Fearing for her cousins life, Vinnie chose.
I knew she probably could have stopped it, done something to save me. But I also understood fear. How it paralyzed, how it could drive any witch to do anything. So I took a piece of paper and began to write back. I wasn't sure if I could ever forgive her, but as we wrote back and forth, I knew I could understand her.
It was not until the third letter that she asked for us to meet privately. At the covens new estate. Well, it was more of a begging.
I contacted Maxwell, told him about my correspondence, and asked for the meeting. A gut feeling telling me this needed to happen. Maxwell agreed.
We met just outside the house, a part of me screamed to leave. I could still see the shallow graves that had been unearthed around the estate. Even with the piling snow, I saw the impressions on the land.
Maxwell teleported Vinnie in, chains around her wrists and feet. She didn't look at the graves. "Alright Vinnie, we're here. What do you want?"
"I didn't want to write it to you, in case the sisters were able to get word and... get involved." She explained.
"Are you going to start making sense?" I snapped. This dark place was unsettling at the least, I wanted to get out of here as fast as possible.
"Your mother is under the house." Vinnie blurted.
I froze. Bullshit, this had to be a ploy.
It was Maxwell, standing between us with a safe distance, that said cautiously, "Explain yourself child."
Taking a deep breath, she answered, "Victoria came to the coven looking for answers as to your disappearance. But she walked right into the sisters experimenting on another victim. She attacked them. But they were too strong. I was at the store at the time, and when I came back... they were deciding what to do with her. I didn't want her to be hurt... your family has suffered enough. So I convinced them to put her under a deep sleep. I watched over her, but I was too scared to find a way to release her. She won't remember the time in the slumber... I'm sorry."
Still unable to respond, Maxwell spoke for me, "Where is she?"
Vinnie nodded towards the house, and we followed as she walked in.
By now, most objects and materials were gone and sold for the scholarships, leaving the large house empty and dusty. Vinnie took us downwards, towards the bottom floor and to a wall, "Arch Mage, there is a door here. Could you please place your hand on the wall?"
