-Emma-
He wants to talk. I repeated to myself, disgusted. He wants to talk.
"Unbelievable." I muttered.
"Huh? What's unbelievable?" Henry murmured sleepily behind me. I turned and kissed his forehead. "Nothing, my dear," I smiled into his forehead. He yawned and wrapped his arms around me, dragging me down beside him. "Hey!" I giggled. He grinned and kissed me passionately.
One of the wonderful things about my boyfriend was that he was fresh. He was always ready to be there for me and he was a simple, nerdy guy who clicked with me and Deana. I always fantazied about a world where we were married and expanded our family. I wasn't sure why I was keeping the secret of Deana's dad texting me, but maybe it was because whenever I thought about him, i remembered how exciting he was and how he made my heart flutter. It was all very confusing.
"Wait, wait!" I squealed as Henry's kiss began to feel deeper. I pulled away from him, and snuggled under his chin, resting my head on his bare chest. I listened to his heartbeat before biting my lip and asking him, "What was up with you on Tuesday?"
He hugged me and crossed his hands over my shoulder. "Was having a rough day," he said truthfully. "Some girl at the office was hitting on me and I tried to let her down gently... long story short, she got fired."
"Oh..." I said, letting go of breath I didn't know I was holding. "I had a pretty bad week too!" I laughed. "Oh really?" he said happily. "How bad?"
"Sharon wants a new story by next week or i'm getting demoted," I sighed. He took my hand and caressed the creases, which made me laugh again. "Stop that!" I cried, kissing him to distract him.
"You look happy this morning, mum," Deana said to me as we buttered our bagels together. "Oh you know, Henry helped me figure something out, as usual," I answered brightly. She bit her lip. "Mum, I think I want to tell you something-"
"Good morning my favourite girls!" Henry swooped into the kitchen in a suit, briefcase in hand.
"Hey, Chicken!!!" Deana smiled brightly, standing up on her chair to hug Henry. "Hey kiddo!" he answered, picking her up and twirling her around.
"Your gonna be a teenager tomorrow Dea!" he said, as though just realizing it. I stood up rested my elbow on my daughters head. "I know, right?" I rubbed the top of her head. "Mom!" she protested, batting my hand away. Henry smiled and kissed the top of both our heads. "It really is crazy," he agreed, "I gotta head into work, but I'll be bringing the best cake you can imagine tomorrow!"
"Oh really?" Deana said, raising an eyebrow and placing her hands on her hips mockingly.
"Wanna bet?" Henry leaned down.
"Oh yeah. 20 bucks, Chicken."
"Deal." he answered. They shook hands and I started laughing again. "At this rate, by the time she's 20, she's going to be losing all her money at the casino, betting over birthday cakes." I said teasingly.
"No way!" Henry and Deana said together.
"So what did you want to tell me earlier, Dea?" I asked her after Henry left. She shifted in her seat. "Uhm, it doesn't actually matter, forget I said anything mom, k? oh and I'm gonna walk to school today with Ava," she added quickly."Bye!"
I gazed after her, a bit confused. "I wonder..." I said to myself.
Late at night, I rolled into bed and sat up against the pillows. I tapped on the message again. Hey... It's Jacob. I know its been a while... but we need to talk.
I sighed deeply and typed a message back.
Fine. What do you need to talk about, Jacob?
