“Chris!!!!” I screamed when he walked in the door.

“Do you know how loud you are?” He said trying not to laugh.

“Yes yes I do, but now that you’re here you can help me with my costume!!”

“Oh no little sister wants help on her costume… ok what are you gonna be?”

“Can you guess?” then I started growling and putting my hands up like paws when my mother walks in. Realizing I look ridiculous, I stop.

“Magena when were you going to tell me your brother was here?” mom said. I loved her but sometimes she was so…mom-ish.

“Mooooooooooom, gosh,” I said not able to contain my laughter. No one else was either. I recently turned sixteen and everyone was so surprised at how much of a teenager I had become.

“Fine you two catch up while I go cook dinner, you must be famished from your long trip!”

“You don’t need to do that for me I'm fine. I had a big breakfast.”

“And who knows what happens after the sun goes down…” I whispered to myself so quiet that I could barely hear it.

“What was that Magena?” said Chris. How could he have heard that? I am thoroughly freaked out right now.

“How did you hear that?”

“I’m not the one who had to go to all those concerts destroying my ears.” He retorted. He had me there; my love of music probably has destroyed my ears.

Later that night…

I had everything ready. My bag was stuffed with power bars, a blanket, my phone, 20 bucks, and 2 bottles of water. All were just precautions in case I had to follow him until morning. As soon as I heard his door open and close I was off. Dressed in black and with black make-up on my face I was all but invisible. Thank you Halloween kit from five years ago. He was headed into the forest… why was he going there???

I chased him into the woods as the full moon shown. The glaze in his eyes was distracted as if he was worried about something ... and then I knew what. It was horrifying watching him go from human to beast. It looked so painful, teeth sharpening, claws protruding from the tips of his, what once were hands now becoming paws. He was becoming less and less human by the second. Then it let forth an inhuman growl. This was no longer my brother. This was a true monster, bloodlust in its eyes it ran towards me. I ran, never looking back, hot tears streaming down my face. The person I loved most was trying to kill me. The nearest tree I saw I climbed and waited for dawn to come. Hours later I heard a small moan instead of a growl and, at the foot of the tree, he lay sleeping. Not wanting to wake him I climbed down and laid a light cover over him.

“I-I thought I had run you off.” He said groggily.

“Sorry to disappoint ya bro but you can chase me up a tree and all around a forest till three in the morning but you can’t run me off.” And there we sat for what felt like an eternity. Life was back to normal well as normal as my life would ever be again. I didn’t want to worry him but he had scratched me as I was climbing up the tree…

“Bro… are… are you ok?” he couldn’t help but laugh at me. I had no clue why.

“Of all the questions you could ask you ask if I'm ok. Wow you really are mom’s kid,” he said laughing.

“What do you mean?”

“Wait she hasn’t told you yet?”

“Told me what????”

“The real story about her and dad…”

“What do you mean?” I am so lost at this point. I had heard mom tell the story about how she and dad got together and it was one of my favorites. They just zinged at first sight. They didn’t know they were in love until dad got dumped by this wretched girl. I knew that story by heart, but was mom lying?
