Beep! Beep! Beep!
I slammed off my alarm out of routine, then slid myself reluctantly out of bed.
Just 146 more day until Summer Break, Sam. You can do this. I thought to myself.
I somehow managed to find my closet in the pitch black, paroozing for something to wear. Forty-five minutes later, my makeup was on, my chocolate brown hair was straightned, and I was wearing my blue "Young Wild & Free" tank top, black skinny jeans, and black sandals. Being my clumsy self, I tripped down the stairs on the way to the kitchen, loudly alerting my family that I was awake.
"Good morning Mum, morning Dad." I sighed sluggishly, heading to the pantry to get a protein bar.
"What, no good morning for your own sister?!" My twelve year old kid sister, Mia, gasped in fake dispair.
"Good morning, squirt!" I chuckled, ruffling her hair.
Mum looked at me with a sad expression, opening and closing her mouth a few times, as if she was going to say something but changed her mind.
"What is it Mum?" I said with a full mouth of food.
"Well....I was just wondering.....since Maitlyn isn't here, if you needed a ride to school." She said quietly.
A gloomy feeling immediately washed over me.
Maitlyn Thomas had been my best friend since we were eight. We were inseperable, pretty much sisters. We told eachother everything. I was her rock, and she was mine. But yesterday....I had to say goodbye.
You see, Mait is smart. Like freaky smart. She got offered a scholarship to go study at a college in America, and here in our little Bradford town, that was a once in a lifetime opportunity. So she took it. She was only going to be gone for eight months, but for two people that hadn't ever gone longer than seventy-two hours without seeing each other, that was quite a long time.
Mrs. Thomas usually picked me up and drove us both to school in the mornings, but obviously, that had stopped today.
I glanced at my phone to check the time: 7:42. If Mum drove me to school now, she'd be late for work. "No it's okay, I'll walk." I responded.
"Are you sure?"
"Yep! Mum, the school is literally just around the corner. I think I can manage walking for four mintues." I responded. I said a quick goodbye to everyone and walked out the front door.
Well, I could manage if it wasn't pouring the rain outside. I silently cursed myself for not taking my mothers offer while I hoisted my bag up over my head.
"Two years until I get my liscence." I grummbled to myself. "Two bloody years."

"Hey Sam." I heard someone say sadly. Turning my head I found the only person who was probably as sad as I was about Maitlyn being gone: her boyfriend of eighteen months, Alex Daley (Yes it is THOSE Daley's. Tom is Alex's cousin).
"Hey Alex. How are you coping?" I asked sincerely.
His dark brown curls flopped up and down as we walked to our last class of the day, French. "Terrible. I miss her like crazy and it's only been one day. What about you?" He asked.
"About the same....hey but you need to cheer up, mate! The big game is tommorow!" I reminded him.
The captain of our school's football team gave me a big grin as he reached to open the French classroom door. "And will you be attending Samantha?" He asked in a classy tone.
This brought a smile to my face as well. "Well of course! It's a Wednesday night, what else am I suppo-" my voice stopped mid-sentence.
Something had caught my eye to interrupt me. And I saw him. A boy I'd never seen before in all of my years of school. I was staring at him intently.
And he was staring right back at me.
