Chapter One

The tears dripped as I looked at Sarajevo, the last time in my life. I was greeted with all the memories and people, while I went to a new world. Nothing now remains for you here, I said it the thousandth time, this is the best decision you made.

"Farewell, my city." - I whispered as my plane was leaving my town, my homeland, I have not been ready to leave. But I had to start a new life.

A man in his forties was holding an inscription in his hand - "Lyra, welcome!" He looked lost, he behaved as he didn’t know what he was doing. He’s beautiful. It’s no wonder that my mother fell in love with him at first glance, I thought. I knew their story. Nathan, my father was on a business trip to Bosnia. One evening he met my mother and they end up together. Soon my mother became pregnant and Nathan went back to America. After nine months I come on the world, Lyra Ewoks. While I was growing up I had everything I could wish for. Nathan has always sent money, always cared about my appearance, but never cared to be a father. I used to see his picture, never him. He never bothered to come to Bosnia to meet his only daughter. When he learned of the mother's death, he proposed me to come to Forks to live with him. I accepted because I had no other option.

I took the suitcase in my hand and began to approach him. At that moment he saw me. I saw his gentle smile that quickly disappeared. He approached me and hugged me.

"Welcome home, Princess." – he whispered.

It surprised me his voice. I didn’t expect to be welcomed. I thought that I was invited to live with him only because it was expected of him. I smiled and nodded. I didn’t believe that I would able to say something.

He took my suitcase and stuffed it in the car, and then he opened me the door. He behaved as gentleman. Is this just an act, I thought. The only person who loved me all my life was my mother. When I lost her, I thought I would never find a warm embrace, which to me she always gave. Now that I finally met my father, I’m no longer certain of that.

"I hope you'd like Forks." - said Nathan.

I nodded because I didn’t know what to answer him, in vain I sought the words that I wouldn’t sound stupid.

"Me too." - finally I answered. He just smiled as if he sensed my thoughts.
