I had spent majority of my evening endlessly hitting targets, never missing. The anger and frustration fueled my aim.

Mora had stood behind me fidgeting her hands. She hated watching me shoot. She said it was not becoming of a woman of my status to show such anger and violence. She should be glad I didn't aim for one of the high councilmen when they would pass by. I was tempted.

I had worked up quite a bit up sweat. It soaked my black gown and it stuck to me uncomfortably. Mora had made me a hot bath and told me I must prepare for tomorrow. The princes would start arriving early near daybreak.

I sunk into the steaming water letting the heat ease my body. Mora began to wash my hair. "M'lady, I have laid out a purple gown for you tomorrow. You will want to show your strength instead of wearing black."

She always said M'lady instead of Tally when she knew I could possibly be upset. I tried to take it easy on her. She was the only friend I had left. Even though I had aunts, uncles and cousins, Mora was also the only person that seemed like family. "I'm still mourning. I don't care what these pompous princes will think. They are coming to impress me anyway, not the other way around."

She never answered and continued scrubbing my hair. She knew I could be stubborn but at least she tried.

I had exited the bath once it turned cold. Mora pinned my hair and I was finally ready for bed. Any normal princess would have been to anxious to sleep. The idea of seven suitors to choose from would have kept any girl awake and excited. Not me, if there was a way to not marry one of them I would find it.

My eyes became heavy and I pictured my father's kind face and hoped to see him in my dreams.

I woke to the sun shining brightly into my room. The windows had been opened by Mora. My cue to rise for the day. She was already working around my room. I stretched in the warm glows. A black corset and gown lay at the end of the bed. I smiled knowing Mora knew I would have protested against anything other than that deep shade.

"Eat before your food gets cold, Tally. You need your strength, princes should be arriving at any moment. We need to get you to the throne room before they arrive. You don't want to keep them waiting." She laid the tray in front of me.

I reached for the dry bread and pulled off a huge hunk with my teeth. "They can wait until I'm ready. I'm in no hurry this morning." My mouth full as I talked caused Mora to huff under her breath.

"Tally, I know this is not the most wonderful of circumstances but you can not allow your attitude to represent this kingdom. You are now their ruler and you are expected to show yer guests some civility." She wasn't wrong but I wasn't going to say that aloud.

"By God's wounds, Mora. I will be regal and mature." She gasps at my swearing.

"Please don't swear. That's not very regal a'tall!" Her face turns stern and she crosses her arms.

"Of course I won't swear in front of others. I just needed to see your face and have a good laugh to start my day!" We both chuckle for a moment before I start dressing. It felt good to laugh for once but I felt guilty my father wasn't here to laugh with me. He would have loved Mora's reaction. It wasn't fair his killer was still running around.

My hair was nearly stacked on my head in curls and my cheeks pinched for some color. Mora seemed way to excited for the princes' arrivals. "Oh wouldn't it be nice to fall in love Tally! You might actually like one or more of these gentlemen."

I roll my eyes. If the high council had chosen these men then I highly doubt any of them had a personality or looks for that matter. "Don't be ridiculous."
