30 years ago what known as the end began. It all started from a few news reports, but soon it became uncontrollable. At least that's what I was told.
I grew up here, in one of the most boring places in the world. One of many survivorship built camps. No contact with the outside, no newcomers, nothing.
Just... Insane curiosity about the outside mixed with boredom, those things haunt everyone who is smarter than potato, whch is the minority. Wake up, work, eat, work again, eat and sleep. Every single day is just like the previous one. Ground hog day, but with extra steps. They say it's safer this way... But is safety worth degradation? We barely have any books, and those that we have are missing pages, or consist of pure pornography. Thank god my mom taught me how to read, or else I would've became one of the cretins that fill this "city". We call this a city, but I can barely call it a village, around 100 people and 500 potato brained, who only know how to take care of vegetables, vegetables just like them.
At least I got a friend; which is an achievement for my introverted ass. Her name is Sophie and she's a total sweetheart who can't even hurt a fly. She is in charge of provisions, and well she's really cute. Her dad is kind of an official here, and he got all kinds of things that I would need during my "escape from the kingdom of boredom," as i call it. I wish I could take her with me, but as I said, she can't even hurt a fly, which is definitely a burden.
"Hey stop writing in your diary and get down here!" Called my stepmom, "Maria! I told you to get your lazy ass down, I don't want to repeat myself!"
As I walk down from my room I see her with a kitchen knife in her hand.
'I know I'm kind of a bad daughter; but maybe we can settle it without knives involved?' I smile at her.
'It is your turn on the field, and if you will try to ditch it again, there will be knives involved.' She says with a playful smile on her face.
As I walk down the street, I see Sophie rushing at me and screaming my name.
"Chill down," I scream and run away from her. As we run up the hill I feel blow of fresh wind on my face. But as always this beautiful moment is broken by Sophie jumping on me."Let me go idiot!" I scream laughingly as we continue rolling on the grass.
Suddenly Sophie stopped and looks straight into my eyes. 'Look what I found.' she says and takes out a piece of paper carefully folded. The realisation came to me, it was a map.'How'd you get that?'
'I got my ways...'she answers mysteriously. 'Well no, I found it in my dad's table.'Drops of sweat started to form on my hands, this had to be it, my way out. I had everything ready, huge backpack with a lot of canned goods, water and jerky was waiting for me under my bed. All I needed was a map and now I had it. I could leave this Kingdom of boredom and go whenever I wanted; I was truly free.
'Hey, Sophie...'
'What is it?' she smiled at me; for a moment I thought about staying here. But I waited too long. Too long to turn back now.
'I'm leaving.'
'I'm going with you.' She whispered softly.'I knew about this along, knew that you'll leave, and hopefully You'll let me leave with you.'
'Wait what?!' I shrieked, amazed by how she found out. I took all precautions, unless...
'You thought I haven't noticed. Mysterious disappearance of canned foods?' She smirked, "you keep forgetting that I'm in charge of provisions.'
Shit, I knew it, I had to be more careful with those. I smiled at her.
"But you're my only friend, and after all you'll need a company along the way right?"
Her eyes started watering, and she was right. I couldn't just leave her here, to rot here. Plus idea of being alone in the woods always scared the living crap out of me.
"How much food can you get?" I asked her, together we could carry more than I could've alone.
Her face literally lit up when those word came out of my mouth. 'Well, I might get more cans, maybe some vegetables.'
"That's good, but what about a gun? Maybe you could get one... Well, just in case, we won't have to use it. Hopefully." I crossed my fingers behind my back, there was no way of knowing if she will agree or not. After all she was the one to step in for me all the time.
'M-my dad has this old shotgun...' Sophie looked down, trying to hide her face, 'it's in the basement, and I-I will get it...' She seemed to be trembling, and I wasn't blaming her for that, it was a hard decision.
'I mean, we don't need it, we can find one later...'
'Its fine,' Sophie looked into my eyes, 'I'm leaving with you.'
'Well then, we meet here after mid-night.' I take the map from her, 'I'll see you there, get as much food as you can, and the gun with ammo.'
'I'll see you there,' she waves at me and heads to the storage. I cant help but smile, this all seems to turn out so perfect. I got a companion, gun, and I didn't end up breaking someone's heart. Except for my stepmom's, but she will be fine. She herself told me that I wanted to leave, I was free to. Plus we weren't close at all, so I don't think she won't be able to move on.
The rest of the day passed by really fast, I couldn't wait till the end of the day. I didn't even bother with lunch, even extremely annoying clean up flew by. At last the sun hid behind the hills, and darkness coated our small "city"; I quickly grabbed my bag and climbed out of the window. I haven't seen my step-mother anywhere, I left a note for her, hopefully she will see it when I'm gone.
I saw Sophie on top of the hill, we greeted each other silently. We walked down, to the wall; stared at it for a few minutes, and silently started climbing. The wall was basically a few wood logs one third in the ground. Climbing wasn't as hard as I thought it will be thanks to the many branches left. After three tries I managed to get over it. That's it. I was outside... Free; Sophie climbed out a few minutes later. While she was at it I quickly checked the map.
Welp, this wasn't so far from settlements as I thought it was. The problem was Sophie's father (or whoever marked this map) marked that settlement as hostile.
I mean we could try our chances, but the nearest "unknown situation" one was around 50 kilometres from here. We would simply die from starvation while getting there. So we had to take our chances. When Sophie managed to climb over the wall; I pointed the direction and we walked, lost in our own thoughts, covered by darkness.
Without turning back...Yooooooooo...
Finally I managed to post this crap. Through all of this laziness and work I had I finally managed to post it. Anyway, I will try to post once in 2 week. Also I might be gone for a month (whole October) anyway. I only got one sub for now. Thanks for supporting me.
With love, your dumbass cunt
(Btw grammar might be off, I'm Russian, love you.)
