1 Peter 1:15-16
"But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, 'You must be holy because I am holy.'"
God cannot look at sin. When He looks at us, He doesn't see the sin, He sees the blood and righteousness of Jesus.
Be different, be set apart. Be different for Jesus.
There is a huge lack of a single virtue in our world today, the virtue of honor.
Romans 12:10
"Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other."
This verse means we aren't stuck with what we want, we honor and (using a wording from the KJV) we prefer one another over ourselves. What if we all competed in honoring one another?
Honor is poison to strife, division, and GOSSIP!
James 3:16-18
"For wherever there is jealousy and selfish ambition, there you will find disorder and evil of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere. And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness."
Those who walk in honor make peace. They stop strife, they stop division. We are not called to be peacekeepers, we're called to be peacemakers.
Real honor puts honor in its rightful place.
1 Peter 2:15-17
"It is God's will that your honorable lives should silence those ignorant people who make foolish accusation against you. For you are free, yet you are God's slaves, so don't use your freedom as an excuse to do evil. Respect everyone, and love the family of believers (literally translated as love the brotherhood). Fear God, and respect the king."
King David was a man of honor. He was told he would be king, but he spent years waiting and honoring the king before him, King Saul, a man who did not act on honor. But David honored Saul because Saul was the leader that God had appointed.
Honor will set you apart, make you look different. Stand where you are called to stand, honor who you are called to honor. Do YOU.
Honor is not easy. Saying no to gossip is not easy. But gossip will only bring you a world of pain, so show honor.
Show honor.
