the bus was five minutes away from her, not very modern, house. and sage still was covering the bruise on her neck from last night.
but it wasn't a good bruise as some of classmates would think, and it wasn't any of their bussiness anyway.
when the bus arrived to her home, sage quickly took her aqua backpack and ran to the entrance. she immediately saw her best friend peter and sat next to him.
he took a sandwich without mayonnaise, and handed it to sage. peter remembered that she often doesn't eat breakfast, so he was always prepared. quite the opposite of how her boyfriend treated her, who, at peter's point of view, just used her for the popularity that her name went with.
i mean, being natalia romanova's daughter was a pretty big deal, and it still is, even when she died.
but peter noted something that everyone didn't or chose to ignore.
the massive amount of makeup on sage's neck, which was pretty obvious. he just hoped thay it wasn't what he was thinking, or things would take a bad turn.
when they arrived, her boyfriend axel took a hold of her, so they could only say a briefly, "see you after class".
at biology class, while the teacher was talking about a topic that didn't interest peter much, because he knew it at perfection. he texted sage to meet her in the hall next to the english classroom.
he just received a simple, "k?" and started to write the important things the teacher was saying.
while sage was quite confused, and a little bit scared. she just hoped peter wanted to talk about some weird topic, or how they should watch a movie thate evening, even tho he usually said that by text.
she fidgeted with her pencil the whole 45 minute class, instead of paying attention to the, pretty much complicated subject, to be honest.
when the bell rang, she felt the sweat in her forehead, and her legs trembling. every step she took, her nervousness was going up, as well.
but she stopped while seeing peter standing next to the classroom. looking nervous and a little bit pissed.
-hey, what's wrong?.- she said, while her tone showed all of the insecurities she was trying to hide.
-um, i honestly don't know how to ask you this, and i really hope it's not the case, because i would be really mad and probably hit him so..- he started rambling.
-wait, you lost me, what are you trying to say?.- she replied, rather confused.
-did your boyfriend hit you?.- peter said, making direct eye contact, and his voice suddenly stopped trembling.
she avoided his look, and started touching his neck.
-he did.- peter acknowledged.
-but- it wasn't his fault, peter. i swear that i made him mad. i'm sorry for causing all this mess but it really wasn't his fault.
-you don't need to apologize, he does, sage. don't you understand?.- he said almost screaming.
-understand what, peter? this bruises told me i'm worth it, i don't need a prince in shining armor. i don't need to be saved for a mess a drove myself into. it wasn't his fault.- she screamed, while a silent tear crossed her cheek.
they both felt lonely at the moment, they both cried and walked in opposite directions.
