"Ice, get back here!" Father shouts as I keep running across the field. Laughing, I run even faster loving it when Father shifts and chases after me, his laughter ringing through our bond as he catches me. "Where do you think you're running off to?"
"No where," I say as innocently as possible. Jumping on Father's wolf, I bury my face in his soft fur. Father's wolf lets out a growl of contentment, rubbing his massive head against my side. Keeping half of my face covered, I look up at Father smiling, sending waves of happiness through our bond. His wolf throws his head back letting out a howl of happiness that wolves in the pack respond too, letting us know that they too are happy.
"Darling, Icee, come inside for dinner," perking up at Mother's voice, Father turns toward her, love coming off of him to both Mother and I. Wrapping my arms around Father's neck, he easily stands up with me sitting on his back. Trotting over to Mother, she lets out her joyful laugh when Father lays beside her, throwing his head back for her to get on.
She does without question, wrapping her arms around me, hugging me close. Looking around as Father leisurely takes us back to the house, I spot pack members milling around, as we past some they offer polite hellos before going back to what they were doing. Pack children run up to Father, touching his wolf before running back to their parents who send Mother apologetic looks.
Going through the woods to our house, I know the warriors are somewhere around here, always watching us. Father being the Alpha means we get personal warriors that's job is to specifically follow us around everywhere and protect us if there is an attack.
Father stops suddenly, letting out a quiet growl as he starts walking again, taking more cautious steps. Looking around, I know Mother is doing the same thing as me, trying to see what Father is seeing. Smell what Father is smelling.
Suddenly we are hit from the side, Mother and I go airborne while Father crashes to his side. Landing on the dirt path, the ground is hard and cold as I lay there trying to get my senses back. Mother rushes over to me, lifting me up.
She takes me over to the nearest tree, lifting me up on one of the branches. "Climb," she says calmly but the panic in her eyes can't be hidden.
Mother is taken down by a rogue, not just one or two, but five or six. Climbing like Mother told me too, I never look down concentrating on getting up as high as I can on the tree. Pausing when Mother whimpers in pain, the rogues have her pinned to the ground, snapping at her. One rogue actually bite her, drawing blood in the process.
Trying to find Father, he is surrounded by twice the amount of rogue as Mother is. They attack him on his hand, taking bites out of his legs and back, swiping at his face and neck when they are confident they won't get bitten. Mother lets out a howl, calling for the pack to come and help but that was a mistake, the wolf biting her latches onto her neck ripping her juggler.
Covering my mouth with my hands, none of them know that I'm up here as least I don't think they do. Father pauses long enough for the rogues to take advantage of his distraction, one latches onto his neck like they did to Mother. In a matter of moments they all have some part of Father in their mouths, ripping skin and drawing massive amounts of blood.
"I love you very much Ice," feeling nothing but Father's love, I let out a sob.
Howls from the pack get closer, the rogues run off, our pack warriors don't stop but chase after the. Climbing down the tree when the pack Doctor comes to a halt beside Father, another one has taken place by Mother but we all know it's too late.
Going to Mother's side, I flinch back when I feel her wolfs stiffen and coldening body. Turn to Father, I go to his side, I wrap my arms around him, putting my head to his chest to hear his heart.
I know I have his blood on me but I don't care, I just want to hear his heart, to hear that he is alive.
Letting out cries of protect when I can't hear anything, I shake Father hard, trying to get him to wake up to do anything. The smell of death surrounds us but it can't be coming from Mother and Father, I refuse to accept that they are dead, that I won't get to see them anymore.
"Daddy, wake up, please" pushing and pushing, he doesn't.
Cuddling up to him like I was earlier, I whimper and cry, trying to send some sort of emotion to him.
Feeling arms wrap around my stomach, I am lifting into someone's arms, but it doesn't feel right. Thrashing and crying out, I'm dropped to the ground when bit down on the person's hand. Running back to Father's side, I grip onto his neck tightly, never wanting to let go as I sob harder at the loss of my parents, my best friends.
