"The green of the grass is brighter this year. Well, they say." My sister Hailey can't help trying to cheer me up. "It doesn't matter. You can't cheer me up. That flower was the last of its kind this year." Hailey sighs. She was right, though. The grass and trees are supposed to look great this year.
A sudden sprinkle of pitter-patter-ing rain fell on my hoodie. The rain started falling in larger bunches we call hurricane drops.
Of course, in the rain forest, it rains a lot. We're in the particular season my village calls insane season. And when a sprinkle falls, a hurricane falls. Thunder, lightning, wind, anything insane that's imaginable. This certain storm we're in for is definitely going to be a hurricane. The rain hits us harder and harder until we no longer can take it. It turns the dirt smudged on my leggings into a dripping mud. "We better get back." Hailey responds with a concerned look in her face. I didn't want to leave. I like hurricanes, especially sitting in the eye of them. But I convinced myself to agree with Hailey. I was still disappointed about that Outlander taking that last flower of the year. My favorite flower on the whole entire island, gone. Hailey jumps up. It makes me jump as well. But in a startled kind of way. "You coming? I can make you your favorite for dinner?" She asks. I can't help smiling. I can already imagine the taste and the smell. The special stew she makes every month for me. And only me. She catches the glimpse of me grinning. She smiles back, signaling that she knows I want to. It starts raining harder. "Let's start running!" Hailey yells in a weakening tone. It's like she read my mind. We both sprint to the village ladder attached to the tree-bridges. And then it happens. There's lightning, thunder, wind shooting down at us. We both start panicking from the sounds and sights. Finally, we reach the ladder and swing ourselves up. Every other step skipped. Hailey slips and we both tumble back down. "Geez, Hailey! You're such a klutz!" I scream at her and she frowns. Her upper lip sticks out showing she's sorry. But I'm not in the mood. "Go!" She quickly stands back up and charges faster this time. A blasting alarm shouts out at us. We both stop what we're doing. It's the warning call for everyone to take cover for a hurricane. We arrive at the top when I notice lightning striking down on the bridges. No ones outside, not even the guards. "Where could they be?" Hailey asks in her same weak voice. I don't answer back. For once I actually don't know. But then I remembered. All the ranks of guards and archery were supposed to meet in the royal cabin, where our leader lives. But I am an archery.
