I shot up in bed. Well, Luke's bed. There was music blasting that was entirely unfamiliar. I walked out of the room. I could heard Olivia's giggles downstairs. I walked down the stairs to see Mom and Uncle Jonathan trying not to laugh. Alex and Olivia dancing around while Luke swayed with the song. Dad and Uncle Nick with their faces in their hands. Then I remembered-they had a band. I couldn't help but start laughing. Luke really found it.
"Daddy! Uncle Nick! Can you guys sing it?!" Olivia said, proving to be a fan of the song. The two shook their heads. She frowned.
"Ya know, I think that's enough for today. Luke, you have Boy Scouts in an hour. Go get ready." Mom said. Luke sighed and turned off the music. Dad and Uncle Nick returned to eating their breakfast. Just as everyone was calming down, the doorbell rang. Mom walked over and opened the door.
"No way. You've got to be kidding me." She said. Everyone turned. Aunt Jessica burst in and hugged Mom. Olivia let out the same excited squeal she had the morning before and ran over to join the hug. Aunt Jess is Mom's best friend and my god-mother. Dad got up and walked over hugging Aunt Jess, once Mom and Olivia finally let go.
"Sorry I'm late. Charlotte had a doctor's appointment so I had to move my flight." Aunt Jess explained. "Hey boys, how was night one?" She added, looking at my uncles who were sitting at the kitchen table. They gave thumbs up since they had just stuffed their mouths. Alex came over and welcomed Aunt Jess, followed by Luke who was in his full Boy Scout uniform.
"Well, you ready to go, Luke?" Dad said, grabbing the keys. Dad was the leader of Luke's scouts group. Luke nodded. Dad kissed Mom on the cheek and then headed out the door with Luke.
"So, Alex and Olivia, do you two like comic books?" Uncle Jonathan asked. The two nodded. Their eyes lighting up at what they assumed was coming next. "How about we go check some out? Your dad told me about some pretty cool places!" Alex ran to the door, grabbing his and Olivia's shoes. The local comic book shop was only a few blocks away so it worked out well for the three. They all put their shoes on and headed out. Mom and Aunt Jess went upstairs and started putting stuff away.
"So, how's nineteen treating ya?" Uncle Nick said. I shrugged. Nineteen sucks. You're too young to do the stuff you want and too old to do the stuff you used to. It's the ultimate rock in a hard place. Plus, the boys are the worst. "Your mom was the same way about being nineteen. Don't worry. It gets better." He said with a slight laugh. We cleaned up the breakfast that was left and headed upstairs to meet Mom and Aunt Jess.
"Yeah, Mike still messages me from time to time but it's just friendly. God, imagine if I would have married him. Greg sends his love though. He's taking care of Charlotte otherwise they both would've come with." Aunt Jess said, as we walked in.
"Oh geez. Mike still? I remember hearing about him." Uncle Nick said. I seemed to be the only one unaware of who on Earth Mike is. I just shrugged it off, assuming Mom or Aunt Jess would explain later.
"Yeah. We're friends but it's really strange seeing him married to someone else after all those years together. But hey, I'm happy and so is he." Aunt Jess said, then turning to me. "So Amelia, gone on any exciting adventures?" I shook my head. I didn't really do much when I was home. I had some friends but being so early in the summer most were still at college. I didn't have much to do.
"I'm gonna go take a nap. Didn't sleep well." I said and headed out towards my room. As I closed the door, I heard Aunt Jess whisper, just loud enough for me to hear but quiet enough to where she didn't think I could.
"So, does she know yet? One of you has to tell her. Or Allan even, but she deserves to know." What. What do I need to know? I debated turning around and asking but before I could, Mom spoke.
