July 15th 2017- The Day of The Fall

Time as we know it goes by in the blink of an eye, with each breath we take, with every step we take, time goes by. We can all die and at that very moment that we do, time will continue to go by, with or without us. As if the reality we live in was so twisted, so brutal that we are nothing but small stepping stones for time itself. And at this very moment, millions of stepping stones were to disappear in the blink of an eye.

The explosions that once filled the air had ceased only minutes ago, the screams of soldiers and citizens had altogether ceased the moment the explosions had stopped. People laid in the streets, frightened for what the silence was to bring. Families were all huddled together in their homes as if they all had this sixth sense, telling them that something was coming. Something was going to take them all away from the chaos and destruction of there now corrupted world, something to set some free, and for some to take them away from a world they loved despite it all. The Merez family had, of course, thought of the same thing. They all sat together on there brown leather couch in the middle of their living room. Their home had been untouched by the war that had started in 2015, however, there luck had been bound to run out soon. Jacob Merez, whom was the man of the family, the father of the two Merez children, had been able to avoid going to war, knowing that it would of been a disaster. However, there he sat with a blank expression, realizing that his eminent death was coming, all of their deaths were coming. Anna, his wife glanced down at there youngest child, five year old Jamie, who didn't understand what was happening, there was fear in her eyes. No one said a word.

Even their oldest child, Avery did not want to say anything. He had always been the most talkative person in the family, but at this moment he was just like them. Frightened, unable to comprehend what was happening and why.

The family had sealed themselves in their home since the day before, having received warning that a scientist, by the name of Gregory Lials, had created the ultimate weapon. One that would get rid of more than half of the population. Many people had tried to stop the man, however, he had the weapon on a timer and it was unstoppable, police departments, swat teams, and government officials did not want to risk it all. The nation was told to get themselves comfortable and ignore the fighting around them, to enjoy every last moment together.

The war that had started in 2015 was known as the third world war, but this time it really was everyone who was fighting. Many nations had dissolved and some were torn into pieces. It was an unreasonable war, no one knew why it started, not the true reason, that is. And for that, there was a price to pay.

Outside a tornado siren filled the air with its screams and there was a loud rumbling sound. Jamie screamed and held on to her brother for dear life. Jacob and Anna both held their children close and held each other's hands. "Don't look." Jacob told his children as he gave his wife a kiss. One last kiss. "I love you all." Jacob said to both of his children and to his wife who was trying hard not to break down in tears.

Outside, the sound became so intense that it began to break windows, the louder it got, the more the earth seemed to shake. And just as it came, the sound stopped as well as the rumbling. There was a long moment of utter deadly silence in all directions. None of the members of the Merez family moved, fearing that it wasn't over.

Suddenly a bright light filled the sky, illumination with so much light that it lit up all the house around, in all directions. Jamie closed her eyes and buried her face in between her father and mother. The sounds of her father, mother, and Avery letting out a deep breath filled her ears, it was a sound as if they were giving up. She looked up to see the same bright light lighting up their eyes. A second later, their eyes slowly closed and they exhaled once more, this time more weakly. Slowly, their bodies fell over. Avery landed on the carpet below, while her father and mother landed against each other on top of Jamie. At that moment, Jamie shut eyes and shut out the rest of the world.

For a long time she laid there, as if she were sleeping, however, she could hear cries from houses nearby beginning to rise. It only felt like a few minutes, however, by the time she opened her eyes it was dark in the room and the cries hadn't stopped. Slowly, she pulled away from her parents, but made sure that the two were still close together. She glanced down at Avery who, just like his parents, looked as if they were sleeping peacefully. "Mommy..? Daddy..? Avery..?" She shook them slowly. She felt a small amount of panic begin to build up in her chest, she put her head against her mother's chest and listened hard, only to hear complete silence. No expression formed on her face as she slowly got to her feet.

She slowly walked to the front door and let herself out. She had a blank expression as she stepped outside and walked out to the street. Those who were still alive were doing the same thing, in fact, more than half had this shocking look on there face, they all didn't understand. She didn't understand. Outside, the ground was littered with small bits of rubble, there was no explosion crater anywhere to be seen and nothing to blame the deaths of loved ones yet.

When she turned back at the house, tears finally formed in her eyes and she began to cry like never before. Her long black hair and blue eyes, made it look like an angel was crying. At this very moment she was all alone and she knew that. And when she realized that she screamed.
