Beep, beep, beep went the sound of Sebastian's alarm clock. Six thirty it read.
Lazily, Seb sat up and groggily said "Monday, February 25th, 2126."
Mother did always say it's important to know the date. She also got Seb into the habit of saying the date whenever he woke up, that's mostly in case he's captured by the government though.
Mother would always say, "They'll lock you up in a room for months hoping you forget the days, but you'll be ready for them Seb."
Say something about us Blacks, say our family is certainly cautious. We almost always have a plan.
Having been awake for a few minutes now, Seb was starting to think clearer.
"Monday, February 25th, 2126." he repeated as his eyes widened and a cheery smile crept onto his face.
He turned and looked towards the mirror.
"My birthday." he said aloud.
His brows furled and his smirk slowly turned into a frown as realization set upon his face. The day they prepared for, for years, was finally here. Sebastian turned eleven today.
"They're coming for me." Sebastian said, almost readily. Almost.
A new emotion washed over Seb as he prepared for the day. He was determined to not let the government get their hands on him. He would not be another kid lying in a ditch somewhere, not him, not today. Going about the house, Seb set up trip wires that were connected to very heavy objects on top of the door frame. He had twenty five pound weights sitting on top of every door and he tied fishing wire through them. The fishing wire followed the side of the door frame down and went through a little niche that caught it and connected through to the niche on the other side. If someone trips any of those lines, it would surely be lights out for them.
Crossing the kitchen to his room, Seb dressed in the most vibrant colors he had, which were different shades of red, neon green, and bright orange. Then he packed a second pair of dress clothes. His idea was to switch clothes while he was being chased, and hopefully, his pursuers would be fooled into thinking he had simply disappeared. After he finished working on his clothes and appearance, Seb made his way to the back door. He looked around his yard and stepped out into the cool wintery fresh air. He offered himself a second of tranquility before setting to work around the yard. Using more fishing line, he set up sound traps all around the perimeter of his yard. If anyone crossed one of those lines, the bells attached to them would ring, which would let Seb know where exactly the intruders are. Knowing where they are would allow him to figure out which ways he'd have to run if he had to stray from the plan.
Entering the kitchen for the first time that day, Seb noticed a note laying on the table.
He picked it up and read aloud, "Seb, we love you more than you could ever know. Everything we have done has been to keep you safe. You lead them murderers away from here and then you get back here to these walls! These walls are your safe place my baby boy. We haven't been expanding them out and making room for you to live in them for nothing you know. You stick to the plan and make it back here. We love you, Sebastian. See you soon, Mom and Dad."
Sebastian woke from a dream that he felt had played out exactly like his morning did. Him preparing for the day. He had an intense headache and hadn't even bothered trying to move; it hurt that bad. After a few seconds he realized he wouldn't of been able to move even if he had wanted to. He was tied up to a chair in his kitchen. He looked towards the side door and saw a weight sitting at the bottom of it, with blood on it. His blood, he came to the conclusion a few moments later. He had knocked himself out on his own trap and got himself captured. Knowing what part would come next, he tried to think of something, anything that could get him out of this mess. It was dark in the kitchen and he could see almost nothing in front of himself, not even the living room. All of a sudden a light turned on in front of him, and there were his parents, all tied up and beaten bloody in the living room.
Sebastian immediately noticed that the whole place was a wreck. Things were smashed to pieces and all of the walls were broken into. They had somehow found out about the walls. Sebs heart sank when he remembered the clothes he had changed out of, and how he lazily left the note sitting in the pocket. The note that had everything on it. He closed his eyes and started crying in frustration. After all of their years of planning, it was still going to go down like this. With his family and himself dead. The last thing he wanted was to see his family hurt but now there was nothing he could do. Except say yes. If he said yes and worked for the government, all would be okay. In his heart, he knew everything wouldn't just be okay. He couldn't kill children, no, he wouldn't kill children. He had to think, he had to get them out of this.
Seb was trying to get out of his ropes when the disfigured man walked into the room, smiling.
"I told you we'd get you, boy, what I didnt know is that we'd be getting your lovely parents here too," he said with a nasty grin.
Seb tried to spit in his face but missed. The man didnt like that, not one bit.
He walked right up to Sebastian and looked him in the face and said, "for that, boy, someone dies," and without looking he pulled out his gun and shot Sebs dad in the head.
Sebastian sat frozen in shock before rage consumed him and all of a sudden he had broken free of his restraints and was back on his feet. He picked up the weight that had hit him earlier and threw it in perfect frisbee form right at the murderer. There was nothing he could've done but take the full force of the weight to his face. As he hit the ground he spit out some blood and a couple teeth and said "for that, it's Mommy's turn," and before Sebastian could move a muscle, he swung his arm up and shot his mother in the chest.
Chaos broke loose as people came crashing through every window and door. Immediately Sebastian was seized by three different men and was being pulled out of the house, but not before he saw a man aim his gun right at shades.
As he rounded the corner Seb heard the man say "you've left me no choice, Rudy," followed by a gunshot.
Rudy, Sebastian thought to himself. The man's name that killed my parents, is Rudy. When he stepped out onto the yard, Seb noticed bodies were littered everywhere. The people taking him away from the house marched him across his yard and into a white Volkswagen Eurovan parked on the street.
"Climb in, sir," said one of the men, Derrick, he read, formally.
Seb couldn't help but immediately trust these people. They had just taken out his parents killer, and potentially saved him from dying as well. He climbed into the van and the door slid closed. Sebastian sat there for a few minutes wondering how long he'd be waiting when the door slid open again.
"I am truly, deeply sorry about what just happened in there Sebastian," said the man who had killed Rudy.
Through his mixture of rage, confusion, and sorrow, Seb managed to gasp out one important word, "why?"
"What do you mean, son?" said the man. Seb was silent while he took a few minutes to regain control of his emotions.
"Why did you save me?" Seb asked pleadingly.
"We have big plans for you, Sebastian Black," said the man.
A million thoughts ran through Sebs mind as he heard that. He quickly voiced some of them.
"What plans? What do you want with me? Who even are you people?"
"We can answer all those questions in time, but right now, you're in shock and need to process everything that just happened before you're hit with more bombshells, said the man thoughtfully."
"That won't do," said Seb at once.
He looked away for a moment as if to think about what he was saying, and as he did so, an eerie smile flicked across the mans face, but disappeared when Sebastian's head snapped back around, focusing his bright blue eyes on this man's cold, calculating gray ones.
"You will answer at least one of my questions, I will settle for nothing less," Seb said reproachfully, a look of defiance in his eyes.
"Oh very well then, Sebastian, ask your one question that simply just can't wait until we're back at headquarters."
Again, a million more thoughts raced through Sebs head as this new statement registered, he was being taken to some kind of headquarters, was the main one, but he stuck with his original thought and asked rather steadily, "who are all you people?"
