So the official story is that I walked past a room however many years ago, and
that room contained one Trooper and two Beast. Two of those Komato died from a lack
of food and water, but one Beast - our nickname for it is Gem - managed to survive and
break out of that room, find its way out of the facility, and attack the kids, albeit a little
dazed and slow. Tough guy.
I say the official story in a way that makes it sound like it wasn't what really
happened, a cover-up. That's not true, because I faced my fears and went back into the
facility to follow its tracks, and as far as I can tell, my story is exactly what happened.
Interestingly enough, I could find no traces of nano in the room. It's like they either
dispersed over time, or maybe were picked up by someone else. Nah, probably just
dispersed. Not entirely sure how Gem managed to blow up the door to the room, but oh
well.
As for the town, no problems there. Beasts have ridiculously pointed feet/claws,
and while it's not all that apparent inside, on dirt it leaves very noticeable holes. Gem left the building and made a beeline toward where its corpse currently lies. Its mental
capacity wasn't all that high, not that it is anyway. Destroy a town and several years of
work, ruining hundreds of people's lives? Nope, head for the first three humans you see.
Komato logic.
Also, right before coming in this building, I learned something else: Nicole, miss
not-usually-all-that-brave, saved Monty's life by throwing a flower. See, what happened
was that Gem charged Monty because of all the noise he was making. To save his life,
Nicole threw a flower at it, which only served as a distraction. However, it thought Jem
threw the flower, turning on her and earning its nickname. But it did attack someone
else, sort of: me. When I tripped on a rock, I stumbled right in its path. Anyone without a nanofield - meaning anyone other than me - would have died. But that did hurt, I must say. We got seriously lucky with this.
