From the airplane window, Winter gazed at the New York skyline glittering against the horizon. It wasn't her first time visiting New York but with each trip, the familiar tingle of excitement buzzed in her mind. Her sister always said that New York was like a parallel universe - full of people with their own agendas, filing in and out of subways, rushing to individual destinations all with no influence from anyone. So much opportunity awaited her within the city. She let out a lofty sigh as she brushed a piece of wavy blonde hair from her face.

"Nervous?"

Winter shook her head slightly, then turned to face her boyfriend, Nolan. The suns dying rays peeked in through the window and settled on him, making him glow as though he were lit from within. She silently admired him, noting every fine detail so she could seal into her brain. The way his green eyes glinted and danced like the sun on the water. The steep arch of his cupid's bow. His chiseled jawline which was now sporting a 5 o'clock shadow. The man exuded luxury, from his perfectly coiffed hair down to his freshly polished designer shoes. Winter bit her lip as she stifled a smile.

"What is it?" Nolan furrowed his brow.

"Can't a girl just admire her boyfriend?" Winter lowered her head and looked up at him through her eyelashes.

Nolan wrapped his arm around her, pressing against the small of her back to bring her closer. He leaned forward and whispered into her ear. "This trip is important for you and I need you to keep your eyes on end goal. I don't want you distracted already," he then pressed a quick kiss to her temple and drew back. "How's the presentation, by the way? Feeling good about it?"

"It's not the presentation I'm worried about, it's me." She thumbed through the papers in her folder absentmindedly. Though she had incredible recommendations, an impressive resume, and a decent amount of experience in the industry, none of those things could change the fact that Winter was...different than the investors she was scheduled to meet. One glance around the first class airplane cabin reminded Winter that although she may not have been born into wealth, she was certainly surrounded by it.

"Winter."

"Sorry," she started, forcing on a small smile, "just lost in my own thoughts. I just feel like they will see me as a fake. Everything I am, everything I wear, everything that I've become is all thanks to you and your family and your money. I can only hope that they see me for who I am and understand how much I want this."

Nolan flashed a debonair smirk, "Winter, you know what they always say - dress for the job you want, not the job you have. You know I am more than happy to help you reach your dream career in any way that I can. And it's not like it matters anyway. After this investors meeting, you'll be well on your way to becoming a celebrity event planner and making big money on your own."

At that time, an announcement from the pilot came through, stating that the plane was descending and preparing to land. Feeling reassured about herself, Winter buckled her seatbelt, ready to face New York and her future.

................................................................................

Winter stared at herself in the mirror as she fastened her gold hoop earring. Her heart thumped in her chest and she silently willed her heart to beat a little quieter so she could focus on being confident and clear minded during the investors meeting.

Don't psych yourself out, Winter. You've been working towards this dream for so long and now you're so close.

Back in her home state of North Carolina, Winter had created quite a name for herself in the event planning industry. She started humbly - planning and decorating children's birthday parties and worked her way up to full service wedding coordinating and then to corporate events and clients. Though her startup continued to flourish in North Carolina, Winter was chasing bigger dreams and had her sights set on becoming a celebrity event planner.
