chapter. 6; ʙᴏʏ ᴡɪᴛʜ ɪɴsᴏᴍɴɪᴀ
"woah there," seokjin chuckled, indicating towards the younger's untidy bed hair and puffy face. "looks like someone had a good night's sleep."
jeongguk willingly returned the smile, not forgetting to give seokjin a sudden back hug before strolling over to the counter, "still tossed and turned a bit, but the best i had in a long time." jeongguk slid himself on the leather stool behind the counter, setting his head on the surface as he waited for seokjin to serve breakfast.
seokjin bit his lip, it was nice to know jeongguk finally got sleep more than the usual 3-4 hours. "i'm glad, i was starting to get worried for you and your sleeping problems." he scooped up the scrambled eggs into two plates before making his way towards the counter, dropping a plate in front of a drowsy jeongguk.
"you don't have to worry hyung, asmr actually helps." watching as jeongguk ate his meal with an immense grin, seokjin could just tell the younger boy was indirectly talking about the particular blonde he would crush on daily and that made his heart swell in delight. it was nice to know jeongguk had someone to rely on, but that didn't stop his concerns.
"i know but that taehyung guy doesn't completely solve your insomnia, jeongguk." he was being truthful. sure, asmr calmed his mind and helped him sleep better, but at some restless nights, jeongguk would still tip-toe to seokjin's room at 3 a.m. with teary eyes and a red face, whispering that he had yet another nightmare with unsteady breaths.
at daylight, jeongguk would still have very noticeable dark circles around his droopy eyes and it troubled seokjin to see those lovely eyes in such poor shape.
seokjin would still hear terrifying cries reverberate from jeongguk's room at nights. so yeah, asmr did help him but it wasn't enough.
"so what? what do you want me to do, jin? insomnia isn't exactly easy to get rid of." he got a little bit carried away with his tone but jin didn't seem to mind. he knew better than anyone else that jeongguk plausibly wasn't really a big fan of discussing his sleeping complications.
"i know, i'm just worried gguk." he sighed, both of them gradually started to lose appetite. jin obviously didn't wish to talk about this topic either but when it comes down to it, he can't help but let his worries take the best of him.
"don't be. there's nothing to worry about," he reassured, but ironically it didn't do much at reassuring the elder.
right as he finished his last bite, he stood up and walked over to the sink, not exchanging a mere glance or a word with seokjin, who deflated in his seat acknowledging jeongguk was now avoiding him.
"jeongguk..."
"i'm fine, hyung. stop worrying so much, it's honestly getting a little annoying. no offense." he proceeded to aggressively scrub his plate, using his sharp nail to get rid of the egg stains residue on the white glass.
jeongguk may not have realized himself but his words felt like a pang against the chest, especially for seokjin, who meant nothing but the best for jeongguk and his health. "my mom made you live with me so i can take care of you. she put your health in my care, jeongguk. it's understandable for me to be concerned-"
"auntie made me live with you because your dad wouldn't allow a burden in his house so i basically had nowhere else to go except here." he raged, teeth biting at the insides of his cheeks impatiently. he was starting to get fed up with this conversation.
"don't say that." jin abruptly whirled in his chair to face jeongguk, who still had his back turned against him like the stubborn kid he was.
the room fell into silence, a suffocating one. until jeongguk put his plate aside and made his way upstairs to prepare himself for school, to which his mood was entirely demolished for.
seokjin was left alone, on a stool, with an unfinished plate of delicious eggs that he no longer had the stomach for. he felt terrible but he knew he wasn't at fault, no matter how much jeongguk despised talking about his insomnia, it had to happen sometime. he can't keep avoiding his problems forever.
"fucking hell." he groaned before sliding off his seat, taking his plate to the sink as he started washing, dropping the remainder of his breakfast in the garbage.
he woke up in a great mood this morning but after the mini argument he had with jeongguk, his morning seemed to go terribly down-hill. "maybe i should've kept quiet." -he mumbled to himself but shook his head. jeongguk can't keep avoiding his problems forever. he repeated the same thought over.
as he kept scrubbing, lost in thought, a loud slam of a door made him yelp, almost dropping the fragile plate before he quickly turned around to detect where the disturbing noise came from.
as expected, it was the entrance door and seokjin didn't fail to notice the pair of missing timberlands that jeongguk would wear regularly.
his shoulders fell, and his widened eyes dropped.
he always dropped jeongguk off at school on his way to work.
"not today i guess..."
